That white stuff you see within the coils is frost/ice. I’ve only seen it do this once before when it had a refrigerant leak. Just had it fixed and I’m wondering if there’s a leak somewhere else. It is 22 degrees outside so that could have something to do with it as well. I’m about one more problem away from putting 50lbs of tannerite in it. What say you @termitebuffet and any other pros?

Check ya inside unit if ya filters clogged it'll cause the warm air insid to not be able to flow through and will freeze ya coils up!

Filters are new. The defrost could be jacked. Wouldn’t surprise me. Trying to put my house on the market and that’s when everything decides to break. None of it’s cheap breaks either. :poop:

Must be from the same family as mine:

Also Carrier. Been doing it for 6 years. HVAC guy came back out and checked it the first winter after it was installed when it first started doing this. Refrigerant levels and pressure were correct, filters were new. It will freeze up, then defrost before it cycles again. Seems terribly inefficient to me, but cheaper to live with it than replace the unit with a different one.

That’s good to know. This thing has had me frustrated as hell lately. Im over it. I’m gonna treat it like a rig and run it till it breaks.

Mine was doing it on the last cold spell we had. A little is normal, a lot is the defroster. I had about 1” of ice around my coil and some of the components inside the pump. Ended up needing a new switch or some damn shit for mine.

That's what mine looked like when the defroster control board blew.... but if you're hearing the defrost cycle happen, it may be something else.

It’s defrosted at the moment and I have heat. Auxiliary heat stays on when it’s cold out but it’s done that since day 1. It’s always had trouble keeping up when it’s cold.
