1992 Chevy 4x4......when shifting into 4-hi it takes up to 15 seconds or more...no matter if I am moving or sitting still. Is there something with the earlier year Chevys that causes this? Any way to make a faster response when shifting to 4 hi?

Thanks

I had a 1995 Blazer... Shifting into 4wd was always much quicker, but when I noticed it getting a little sluggish, I made sure I changed the fluid. When have you changed your transfer case fluid?

Also it is greatly affected by trying to shift at too high a speed.

Double check your manual, there may be an indication of what it up in there believe it or not...

mine has always done it..and ive had mine since it was new in 88

Yes it is normal, especially when it is cold out. The only way to make it "quicker" is to remove the actuator and install a cable actuator to engage the front axle. Oh, and submerse the front axle in cold water and it'll disengage as well.

Yes there is an upgraded part, but you can only polish a turd so much, it is still an issue, the newer (2000 up) trucks are much better, but it is still a lame system.
