alright, have a chance to buy a welder from a buddy, at a good price. is it worth it, pros and cons of the welder, piece of crap, what do you experts think, as i know nothing about welders, or welding. its a miller spoolmate 200, 60hz, 230-460

200 amps, 60% duty cycle, max ocv42. it has a spoolgun, diamond aluminum plate covering the welder, ready for gas, on a cart with wheels. couldnt find any other #s on it, due to cover being changed. also said its setup to weld aluminum as well. so school me. thanks oh yeah, can buy it for 300.00

can it also weld steel, and it works very well.

yes

it wil do anything you can pretty much....if its in good working condition its a good deal....

IF, your learning for the price go with it. You could waste alot more money on smaller new machines that will only fustrate you and create many bad habits. Look over the spool gun, if you can operate it even better. This is a fairly older machine. The parts for the gun are hard to find. A friend of mine has one and it needed parts to rebuild. The parts where hard to get even from Airgass. The gas flow is cut on and off by a crued rubber valve that with age dry rotts and leak constantly, bye-bye exspensive gas. They do also weld steel. They don't seem to put out near the current of new machines of the same size. If it does have a mig gun and it looks well worn I'd put a liner in it and examine the defusser, same for the spool gun. Remember the drive rollers on the machine are different from soft wire to steel, some also flip some don't. For that price I still would not pass it up, great for light steel, alum fab. If your going to work the spool gun hard though get something newer. They feed better, less bulky and much better performance.
