Physically yes, just sore, emotionally I'm not sure ( me either, I'm glad she's not dead or badly injured but I'm also upset w her ). She was turning left at a T and pulled into the path of a concrete ( Mack ) truck to her left that she thought was turning right cause she saw a blinker ops: . She knows this was incredably dumb and that she's very lucky, and she's very embarassed and still frightened about the what if's....yea it could have been alot worse.
If it helps at all tell her she isn't the first to do this. My wife totaled our accord a couple years ago. She was reaching into her purse on the passenger side floorboard for the phone and took her eyes off the road.....BAM....turns out an accord front end fits perfectly under the rear bumper of a BMW X5 SUV that had stopped and she didn't notice until too late. Killed the car but she was OK fortunately. I had the same reaction you are....1st "is she OK"...once the answer is yes....relief then a bit of frustration, but as the title of your thread says, just be glad it wasn't a different outcome and give her a hug.
I hav'nt had adrenilin like that in many years, for hours and hours after she called me w her voice shaking and I went to pick her up. I thought about what If she was gone ..............and i'm still numb.
Glad she is alright! Rarely get turn signals, anymore, so it's hard to trust a signal you do see! And us truckers do fail to cancel the blinker, sometimes.
I inadvertantly left the page up and she read it about 10ish and cried again. I think she's starting to feel better and i'm tryin to get her cheered up w thoughts of a newer/better auto. She appreciated ya'lls replies and wanted me to tell all to remind yourselves/lovedones about driving w phone/text distractions. She does'nt blame the truckdriver at all and feels terrible for scaring the crap out of him too, he took evasive action and probly saved her life and she knows it. He was very nice and gave her a big hug and my hat's off to him. I'd like to personally meet/thank him and have his name. I know she was absolutly terrified to see that big truck bearing down on her and has learned a lesson bigtime about safe driving.
My girlfriend did something similar about 3 weeks ago, except she rolled her Envoy through a guy's yard and landed on a guide wire for a phone poll. Said she swerved to miss a cat No question that she totaled her ride, but what made me mad was that she didn't call me! I woke up and saw she had sent pictures with no explanation. I have since made it clear that I can be called upon any time of the day or night. Ironic thing was, she just had the transmission rebuilt and was selling that vehicle to get a new one.
Anyway, glad your wife is alright! The new car thing is always a bright side.
Hell, my ex totaled 2 Super Sport Trail Blazers in a row... Within 3 miles of each other on 85 in the construction zone near Concord Mills. I think she got so used to the Brembo brakes that I added to both, that she got over confident in her braking distances. Stereo blasting wide open, full retard.
My wife ran her Pathfinder into a pole once. In the parking lot of a Food Lion.
We got home and she immediately started crying, I immediately started laughing. Cars can be replaced, people can't. I will never be angry about her messing up a car, as long as she is ok.
Doesn't mean I let her forget about it though.......
