Hey guys - so I'm on vacation but need to stay in e-mail contact with the office. ( I know, some vacation :shaking:) The place we're staying at has free wireless access. I can get to the internet, I can receive e-mail, but I cannot send any e-mail. When I try to send e-mail I get the following error message:
Task 'Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
Everything worked fine at home and I have a secure wireless connection back there. Since I arrived here I have not been able to send any e-mails. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.

I'm guessing your SMTP server is your home ISP?

SMTP servers don't allow forwarding anymore as a spam prevention thing. You can leave your incoming (POP3 probably) server the same, but you'll need to find out if your hotel provides a local SMTP server.

Easiest thing would probably be to use a webmail account and have it check your POP3 mail while you're gone, and/or use it for outgoing mail. With gmail for example, you can add other accounts to it, then pick which one you'd like to use for outgoing messages.

Create you a gmail account and use the gmail smtp server. The mail that you send will still route back to your home email address, minus the header showing it was sent by gmail's smtp server.

* Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.gmail.com
* Use Authentication: Yes
* Use Secure Connection: Yes (this can be TLS or SSL depending on your mail client)
* Username: your GMail account
* Password: your GMail password
* Port: 465 or 587
