Just wanted to post up and see who is still on the board that I knew. I been MIA for 4 years due to the Army and now I am finally back in North Carolina. Hoping to either find a 4 door Wrangler to build or build my 2000 WJ since its already paid for. Also have to get some welding done to my 2006 Dodge Ram so I can take it on the trails as well.

Hope to talk to old friends and also make new friends.

Danny

Jason,

You are welcome and thank you for the support.

well, welcome back.

Great to have more wheelers in our area.

Thanks.

I look forward to start wheeling again after the new year. Have to get some things welded onto my Ram like the front truss and limiting straps. Then it will be time to dig into the 2000 Grand and start building it or find a 4 door Wrangler lol.

Just wish I knew how to weld or knew someone who can weld really good lol.

Hey. I take it you no longer have the K5 lol.

having a WJ, without a huge budget and a welding shop in your back yard, it's not the best platform to build a trail rig out of. different motor mounts, different lug pattern. different axles (longer shafts). Tone ring speed sensor.

All this means that to be anywhere near capable for more than 2 track explorations your gonna need to swap in a 231 t case and at least dana 44 axles. and you are gonna have to do both at the same time due to the way the computer gets the speed info.

Well it already has the NV-242 transfer case so that is one good thing. I was thinking D44HP/9 inch rear but I am not 100% sure and Clayton 6 inch long arms. It will all depend on what the wife says, our son is 13 so it might go to him after a full rebuild since it has 210,000 original miles on it. Wish I had a welding shop in my back yard, I have not welded in 28 years and that was with an arc welder in middle and high school as an elective lol.

Might look for either a 4 door wrangler of a nice mild built XJ. Wife says have to be able to fit all 4 of us and have heat and AC lol.

nope. It has been long gone.

Stephen what are you driving now and do you still talk to Chris?

I use to build K5s and sold my last one to jeepyjman, never got it where I wanted it. I know it was use pretty hard.

Time to find something new that wont break the bank. Thats the main reason I was thinking about the WJ, its paid off and runs great. Only reason for the drive train rebuild is because it has 210K on the clock. Still runs like a raped ape with no major issues with it. Still 100% stock as well. I am kicking around the idea of making it into a 4.6L stroker but that is not 100% set yet either lol.

Wish I still knew people who could weld, that would save me a lot of time and money on any build.

tranny wont hold up. the 42re is not something you want a lot of power in front of, scroll through craigslist and look at all the durangos and dakotas and ram 1500s with the 5.2 all of them have bad trannys. guess which tranny they have. the 4.0 already puts out 190hp stroking it is just asking for trouble outta that 42re. i wish it had the Aw4 like the Xj's. Unfortunately it takes some electronic magic to make one of those work. and like i said earlier, after that you have to contend with the engine management computer for input from the axles. If you want to upgrade axles (and you do) you are gonna need more electronic magic or a np231 with speed sensor output on the tail shaft. or buy a set of rubicon dana 44s.

Hey Ash how have you been?

It's all up in the air on trail vehicle still. Done all the research from axles, to tranny, engine swap etc.

It all depends on what I find when I am ready to build.

Too bad your not closer to me, I could weld anything you needed. I do still talk to Chris. Just about everyday. I wheel a 95 yj. Are you still at the same place?

I live in Spring Lake now (North side of Fort Bragg), if you are in Concord you are only 2 hours away from me lol. Just got a 2006 Dodge Mega Cab 5.9L cummins. I have not heard from Chris in a while, I messaged on his facebook with no response lol.

Welcome back to the board and back home!!!!
Thank you for your service.
Monday I was thinking, dang he's back, haven't seen him on the board in forever. Hope you are doing well. Can you send me a link to the truss, I may be able to weld it on for you, but it would be after the first of the year. I'm curious to check out the truss and what the mfr says about it before I give you a definite answer.

Mac I sent you a message about the truss.

Army has had me pretty busy so not much building or wheeling going on as late. I am thinking about building my 2000 Grand Cherokee or maybe a nice XJ. It will all come down to pricing and what can be swapped on the WJ. Best part of the WJ is that it is paid off lol.

I know there is a lot of knowledge on this forum that I can tap into for the WJ build. It will be custom that is for sure and I do not mind that one bit and people who know me know I am not afraid to cut metal.
