I assume you never spent any time in a tobacco field when u were a kid???? Thems called baccer worms around here and they will eat a plant up in a short amount of time. When I was a kid we use to play w em.

That is a tomato horn worm and they will bite the shit out of you! I've seem them 3" long and almost an inch thick the late in the season.

When i was a kid my uncle got stung on the arm by an enourmous caterpillar similar to that it had some orange and yellow along w the lime green if i recall, and 2 big horns on it's head or tail. Minutes after he was stung he had a golfball sized lump on his forearm!!. I was stung by a 1+ inch green worm on the hand and it hurt like hell, burning like an elctric shock for a while. It had a mohawk of stiff hairs on it's back that I think is what stung me.

Correct. Yes they will strip a plant before you know it. I lost a few tomato plants a couple years ago from them. Kill any moth especially white ones if you see them flying near your garden. They lay the eggs for worms like this.
In my research a couple years ago it said they were harmless to humans so I don't know who is right about that but I still won't touch one. They just look evil.

pretty sure I got stung by one of them too, I never saw it or had any swelling. I was out tending the garden then had the electic shock feeling, figured I brushed up on something. It was freaky, like you said, hurt like hell.

I've also seen those hornworms, not that big though

Most caterpillars will bite you with varying degrees of severity. They do have some poison in there too, even the cute fuzzy ones that you've played with as a kid.

I did some googlin and found the one that stung me was a Saddleback caterpillar, Could'nt seem to find the one that stung my uncle. It was 5+" long and big around as a hotdog and looked like a miniture version of a Japanese science fiction movie monster!

I had some wooly caterpillar fall out of tree and hit my chest when I was a young lad playing in the woods. Upon contact I had a chemical burn. It "melted" my skin and hurt like hell. The area melted was about half the size of a business card. I think the little bastard was black with some white coarse hairs on it and probably about 2"+ long.

I have been cautious of them ever since. I couldn't imagine that big as fawker in the pics taking a bite out of me. OUCH!

This. I've see people bite the heads off of them too....
