jailbreaking/unlocking iphone 3g

I upgraded to an Iphone 4 today and want to unlock/jail break my old 3g iphone so my wife can use it on her T-Mobile account. Who can walk me through the steps to do this?
 
05.15.04 version 4.2.1 I was late last night trying to get the break to work but wouldn't. I've been trying redsn0w but i'm getting stuck when it is asking for the current firmware settings. I can't find the right list to choose from. I'm about to just take it to someone who can do it in 5 minutes like they all claim on youtube.
 
Haven't done phone like this but did my iPod touch 4. It only took 5 mins to complete the process and I'll find out which program I used. Only downside was that it would randomly crash or restart...I ended up resetting it to factory I believe.
