Uwharrie Off Road Training Center (UORTC) Big Creek Icebreaker 2014

Who: All full size 4wd vehicle owners

What: Open trail ride

When: January 4, 2014 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Uwharrie Off Road Training Center, 4026 NC Highway 109 North, Eldorado, NC 27371

Why: An opportunity to ride exciting new trails in the Uwharrie National Forest area; test your driving skills and your vehicle’s off road capabilities; enjoy a fun and rewarding day getting to know yourself and your 4wd vehicle.

UORTC will be hosting Icebreaker 2014 on the UORTC Big Creek training grounds. Big Creek is a 120 acre property located 4 miles from UORTC headquarters that has been leased by UORTC to develop trails for training and fun. These trails provide challenges to test modified vehicles with lockers and large tires while providing bypasses that allow a stock 4x4 vehicle to enjoy the same trails! Some of the trails are tight and not suitable for full size vehicles such as a Ram pickup truck without incurring body damage!

The cost of this unique experience is only $20 per vehicle, limited to 40 vehicles!

Pre-registration is required! To reserve your spot, contact UORTC, Scott Fields, at 336-906-1644 or uwharrie4w@aol.com, email is preferred. Payment can be made via PayPal, Credit Card or U.S. Mail.

You will check in at UORTC headquarters, 4026 NC Highway 109 North, Troy, NC, 27371, where you will sign your waiver paperwork if you have not taken care of it online. OHV trail riding is an inherently dangerous sport and you acknowledge this fact and assume all liability for damage to your vehicle or injuries to you, your passengers or others on the Big Creek property!

There is LIMITED trailer parking at Big Creek, register early to insure your spot! There are no bathroom facilities at Big Creek! Bring your own food and drinks! The Big Creek gate will close at 5 p.m. sharp! NO ALCOHOL!

There will be UORTC personnel stationed on the Big Creek trails to ensure your safety and provide obstacle coaching IF you so desire.

Camp sites on the UORTC Headquarters property are available for Friday and Saturday nights. Cost is $5 per person per night.

Any chance the trails will be wider by then? They were a little narrow for my liking last time.

This is a very nice trail system, for anybody who is on the edge about coming just come. It's well worth it and is a very different experience compared to the forest trails. Anybody wondering if there rig will fit the last ride we have a K5 on 37s and a 2012 Power Wagon on 37s(very very tight, had massaged the bed pretty good).

To answer a few questions:

This is an open ride format, not a guided trail ride. You can ride individually or in groups on your own time schedule.

UORTC personnel are on site to enhance your experience. IF you want/need help they are there. IF you don't want/need help they will watch you have fun.

There is no tire size limit.

Small children welcome but are encouraged to remain in vehicles for safety and ALL children must be closely supervised by their ADULT chaperone!

This is PRIVATE property and all guests are expected to respect the property. TREAD LIGHTLY principles are expected to be observed.

NO ATV, UTV, side-by-side or motorcycles allowed during this event.

Do vehicles require tag/registration?

No tags or registration REQUIRED but encouraged. Big Creek is 4 miles from UORTC headquarters. There is LIMITED trailer parking at Big Creek if you MUST trailer your vehicle. It is preferred that you drive your trail rig from UORTC headquarters to the trailhead but we understand that in some cases this is impossible.. This causes less traffic, noise and commotion which will help our community relations and help ensure that Big Creek can continue to hold trail rides and not just training sessions!

If it is wet, I would say Trailers would be problematic further limiting.

It's just that we do not have a large parking area like The Flats or Devils Playground. Parking will be along side the road shown in the picture in post #13. It is pretty much a one lane road and with vehicles parked on the side it will be tighter than normal but still doable.

ALL vehicles are welcome and there is no tire size restriction. We are simply asking that if you trailer your trail rig and IF that trail rig is tagged and capable of driving 4 miles to the trailhead, that you consider doing so to minimize traffic and parking issues.

I am going to try to make it, but what are the plans after 1/4/14? Will it be open all the time or invite only?

AFAIK it will be by invite only every time you go out there as it is private property.

The property is leased and used for UORTC training purposes. UORTC does military, civil and private OHV training classes on this and several other properties.

IF this Icebreaker is well attended I'm sure there will be other, regular opportunities for the public to ride Big Creek but this is not an off road park that is open on a regular basis to the general public.

I jumped the gun on the ad for the Icebreaker :( It has been edited to reflect the need to pre-register for the event! Sorry for any inconvenience!
