I about freaked earlier in the week when my check gauges light came on and my oil pressure gauge was about 3psi. Motor was not making any noise and I quickly turned in to the next parts store. I thought I was seeing it go down around turns so I thought it was low on oil so I put two quarts in it. Next day it was down again and wouldn't even come back up when the rpm's are up. I added another quart as I pondered where all the oil was going.
After reading up on the subject I pulled the sensor/sending unit and poured a little gas in it and blew it out with compressed air. Added a nipple to the location that the sensor screws in to and then added a small hose to a 2 litre bottle. I turned the motor over and walked around to check the bottle. By the time I got to the bottle and saw what was happening and raced back to turn it off it had filled the 2 litre bottle and started to overflow into the driveway. After pondering how smart this was I cleaned up the mess and screwed the sensor/sending unit back it. I at least got the extra oil out. LOL
Only those DIYers know the satisfaction of a job well done. I now have 55psi at idle and throughout the rpm range. Next time you have the same problem, grab a new sensor/sending unit or try cleaning the one you have.
