I have a 99 xj 4.0 AW4

Went to the store today for 5 mins and came out, what do you know some " Insert Insults Here " Decided they needed a Jeep Cat conv. more then i did.

I've already changed out the muffler with a 40 series.
Need to replace the header also. ( Small crack at collectors )

I found this cat online.
http://performance-curve.com/425225-225catalyticconvertero2.aspx

Price on this unit is resonable. What do you guys/gals think?.

AdvanceAuto has a replacement for $119.xx

Would i be better getting the cat i linked?. and fixing the header with a apn? ( What ever it is called )

Also would there be any down-side to removing the pre-cat?.

Thanks.

The cat from Advance is probably the same as the one from Performance Curve, or very similar. Your local exhaust shop should have one for $80 or so, probably also the same thing. They work pretty well. I'm a fan of keeping them on the car. They do help cut down on the stink and noxious fumes, don't cost much, and really don't hurt performance.

Someone crawled under your jeep and cut it out? Thats one brave crook.

Not to mention the fact that even if it were only driven a short distance prior to being in the store for 5 minutes, I bet it was pretty hot to pick up...

What the heck part of town were you in anyway?

Winston-Salem, I was at Food-Lion on CountryClub rd.

Yea bet it was hot. I drove it for like 30 mins before that.

Thanks for the offer. was thinking of ordering the one online. less than 50 bucks.

Make sure its a good ob2 cat if not it will cause a check engine light. Trust me I've been doing exhaust work for 15 years. It has an O2 sensor in rear of the cat you may want to check they just jerked or cut the wires.

You can have the stock cat from my WJ for whatever it costs to ship if you want it...I replaced it with a Magnaflow performance cat when I re-did the exhaust.

Magnaflow universal cat would work just fine. About $80. Otherwise they also make a direct fit. You can pick them up from any parts house. O'Reilly's would be my preference.
