i have a 1995 xj. it has been beaten and bruised but runs amazing and is a great vehivle. i am wanting to do a budget 2-3" lift on it and was wondering what the best way to go is. the struts inside the coil springs are broken off. and gone. wondering if i could just remove them and use a stiffer shock or if that would cause a bouncy ride. i was told old man emu has a lift for $90 and wanted some opinions.

2" coil spacers up front, add-a-leaf in the rear. Be careful with extruded aluminum lift blocks, like you can buy @AutoZone. Lift blocks amplify axlewrap, and the factory springs are very soft. If you were at the ECORS race @ the Flats, you may have seen my rear axle wrap and spit out my rear driveshaft. Wasn't pretty and it ended my day.

The "struts" inside the coil spring are bumpstop towers. Sounds like they might just be missing the rubber snubbers.

You probably want to keep the bump stops. Mine are gone. I have 4" lift and running 32's. I've cut the front fenders bigtime and the tires are STILL hitting bad.

93-98 Grand Cherokee v8 coil springs give you 2'' and add 2 extra idolaters and you have 3'' in the front. Rear use ford chevrolet or dodge truck full size shackles and you will have 1'' 1/2 for rear, s-10 blazer springs added to your stock main leaf will give you 4'' if you don't use the factory helper, Thats what mine has and its very flexy and rides great.

Go to autozone and get their lowering shackles, they're made to mount opposite of Cherokee shackles so instead of lowering the jeep it'll lift up the rear a couple inches. It's working very well on mine. For the front I'd go with the V8 Grand Cherokee coils and coil spacers depending on how high you're wanting to go.
