Well, to be honest, I am still fuming mad over the whole situation. I was trying to get to the point where I could calmly talk to the service manager in person and see how they were going to hanlde it.
I was getting ready to go on a long trip, so I checked all the fluids, tire pressures, etc. IMAGE my surprise (ok ANGER) when I open the radiator and don't see antifreeze. No huge deal, grab the antifreeze and start pouring....and pouring....and pouring. $#%%^()$ it took a half a gallon. I do notice rusty looking deposits on top of the *new* radiator. I started the engine to let it draw in the coolant and empty the rest of the gallon of antifreeze to fill the radiator. I turned the engine off and saw antifreeze leaking from where the resivoir hose meets the radiator all over the top of the radiator. I go to tighten the little clamp...except, there is none. Luckily, I discovered this AFTER the service department was closed. I drove up there and spoke with the service manager in person. I told her after my last experience I would rather push my Jeep 100 miles than return there for service but they needed to fix the issue. I got the whole line of how they stand behind their work, take pride in their reputation, all that jazz. They agree to take a look at it. Though, she was not at all concerned with my bad experience that caused me to never want to return.
Their verdict was it was due to a bad radiator cap (funny how this miraculously failed only after they did the work, which as you recall was never supposed to be done in the first place) and that there is 'not supposed to be a clamp on that hose since there is no pressure on the system there' - despite the fact that antifreeze flows freely around it and there is a clamp on the other end of that very same hose. To be exact, a gallon of antifreeze over 500 miles of travel since the repair. They replaced the cap and clamp and sent me on my way.
To the person that asked about the shop in Aberdeen, yes I live in the Sandhills, but had the work done at a Jeep dealership out of town. Any recommendations on a good repair shop in the area?
