So on my way to work everyday Ive noticed from the highway a convertable 4x4 in the back of the Foreign Cars Italia lot off Tyvola and always wondered what it was.. So the other day I venture back there and it was a J2000.

Ive never seen one of these before but it was pretty sweet... Reminded me of the Kaiser military trucks. This one looks like it is a forgotten project. The paint was newer, had the hard top and a roll bar. Had all flat mud tires, the interior looked nice with all the dash and a spare/replacement radiator sitting on the seat.

If anyone loves these jeeps I would go talk to someone at that place and see about taking it off their hands. It would be a great project that looks to not need too much work to be roadworthy. I didnt get too good of a look but it looked fairly good with minimal rust that I could see..

:driver:

Let me know if you stop again and get a price. I have a buddy who was looking for a big J truck recently.

Does it look like this

If it is the first one it is an M715

They never made a convertible J-truck from the factory that I know of.

I cant view the pics at work - but from what it looked like the top was a different color than the rest of the truck and it looked removable? Like I said I dont know much about em, Ill snap a pic and see if I cant post it to here after work.

It's mine. Good eye spotting it from the hiway!
I bird dog like crazy when I am going down the road.
It is a 79 J10, but it has a early Gladiator grill like a 60's M715. The top is just a normal J10 top, it is not removable. The front fenders are replacements off a J20, thats why the emblems are there. Its got a 360 & T18 in it. I just got a set of freshly built 1 tons from Donnie Baker (talldeck427) to put under it.

Wanna sell the grill?

Thats the best part of the whole truck! Thanks for the offer. Putting the D60's under it this weekend. Got a new HEI to stab in it to eliminate the melt-o-matic Ford ignition box and I am rebuilding the Motorcraft 2bbl tonight. Should be blowing smoke soon.

Leave the stripes and rollbar!

I figured that would be your answer, but had to ask, Cool truck

Thanks! Got it from jeepguyp down in Spartanburg. Anybody that has a jeep on the roof of thier shop is alright with me. If anybody knows where another Kaiser grill is, it would be him.

He just corrected me in the post above... Its a 1977. There are so many different years of parts on it, it is hard to keep them straight!:shaking: I am looking forward to wheeling the piss out of it!

Morphodite

John... You are calling it a "He" in this post but you named it "Tinkerbell"?!!:shaking:

He..... Yeah, I always thought a "Gladiator" deserved a guys name, thats why I named my former dailey-driver, 1977 yellow J-10, "Thadeus".
Well, a 77 (J10 or J20) is a decendant of the "Gladiator" series.
But for some reason, I thought it ironic\humorous to hang "Tinkerbell" on the big ugly Jtruck with 35" tires and the rhino grill.
For the benefit of the confused :confused:viewers.....those are 1971\72 J2000 front fenders on a (later) J-10

WAIT A SEC.....

Did you just buy this or ya mean you are the original owner? I didnt check for it coming into work today... If you just bought this, mid if I ask what they let it go for or how long it had been sitting there? When I went by to ask about it they were closed... you move fast!

As a finders fee ya gotta take me wheelin in it!!:driver:

.... I dont like it now that the top isnt removable.... haha

Naw, man, I didnt snatch it. I have had it for a while now. I parked it where you saw it because I work here. No more room at the home shop untill I finish up my 1966 Scout project. Got the J truck from John down in Spartanburg (jeepguyp on here) a couple months ago. He is selling off a collection of J trucks and Cherokees. He has taken a lot of money off of me lately for tires and trucks...and now he is waving a 401 Cherokee under my nose.:fuck-you: He knows how to tempt me!

Yeah he's a good guy with lots of toys. I took a j truck off him a while back

TOYS

Yep.... had to thin out the herd and keep what I REALISTICALLY was going to fix\drive\use(in addition to my dailey driver Dodge W350)..... which is my 3 Jeeps I've had for years.
1977 CJ5- 360-5 speed granny\Dana 300
dana 44s, Dtroit locker, etc- bought in 1989 as a 6cyl \3-speed !
1977 Wagoneer 401\ Qtrac
1977 J10 401\Qtrac
Thats enough for me.
With part of a Studebaker\ Avanti collection coming around, I hadda add more garage space just for that!:shaking:
I'm glad someone will breath new life into Tinker....I mean the blue truck. I drove it home with a milk crate for a seat.....
Lol!,Don't fret the 78 Cheif , Tom. Its gone to its new home in Winston Salem:driver:

Sounds like you have a nice collection of Jeeps there! Nctom - i want to see those new axles under that thing, you gettin to that this weekend? Hows the scout coming along? What do you do at the car dealer? Mechanic? Think you can get my dads XK8 electrical issue fixed? haha

It is actually parked behind Scott Jaguar. We build custom wheelchair accessible vehicles and rent 6 bays from them for our shop. We are located in the showroom/building between them and Foriegn Cars Italia. I dont turn wrenches for a living anymore, I do sales and service now. I ruptured a disc in my back a few weeks ago so the 1 tons are in a holding pattern for now. Sucks getting old! You eventually have to pay for your misspent youth.

As far as your Dad's XK8 goes... Once the smoke comes out of Lucas electronics, you are screwed! Someone on here has the part number for replacement smoke, but you are on your own getting it back in there!
