I believe I royally screwed up! When I purchased my jeep the seller only gave me one key, when I went to have a copy made I found out it had the security chip. They wanted $90 to make a $.99 key so I said screw it I'm not paying it.

Well my dumb ass self had my only jeep key in my pocket the other day and now it is gone. I wasn't driving my jeep that day so I did not realize until last night I lost it. Long story short the Jeep dealer can make a new key but its $220 and I have to have the jeep towed to the dealership which will be another $70-$80.

I can get a whole new ignition from Advance Auto for $64 but that key does have the security chip. Is there any way to over ride the security feature so I can use the standard ignition?

not sure how to bypass the sentry key system, but have you verified that your jeep actually has it? Sentry key was an option in Wranglers. Was your original key head black or gray? If black it doesnt have the chip. I went through the same thing recently, luckily my 03 doesnt have the chip

Never mind I hit the panic button a little early on this. I just called a lock smith and he's coming to my house to make the key and only going to charge me $90. It's sad he can come to my house and still charge a third what the dealer does. It's amazing Dealership have any sevice left at all. Who would be stupid enough to pay their rates?

What is really crazy he is charging me less to come out to my house and make the key then what the dealership wanted when I had my original key and was just wanting a duplicate made. How stupid is that?

but he wont be able to program your new key that he makes and you will still have to pay to have the key programed I would not think a locksmith would have a tool to program all makes etc

You need to get to know your local locksmith, most can do ford, gm, and Chylser cars and trucks....

Actually he said he can program the key, he has reader that will read my code that in the jeep then he can use it to program the key.

Just had a transponder key made yesterday, some walmarts can copy them. Mine was for an 04 wj which is the same key as yours and it was $64. I live in the Lake Norman area and the only Walmart that can copy transponder keys within 30 minutes of me is Mooresville, NC. If you decide to have a 2 keys made it might save you a couple of bucks to get the copy made there. The only thing is their blanks look kind of funny, pretty bulky for a key.
