Jeep makes unreliable products

Some one above me mentioned a jeep will last 200,000 miles if you dont modify it....BFD. the FJ60's will run for 400,000 miles...and thats with 35 inch tires and wheeling it every summer.

I'm not trying to start a brand war because I'll give yota the edge as a brand but I've had lots of roommates with toyotas over the past years and my XJ has made them all look like junk.

You've got your stories, I've seen a toy ifs 8" r&p grenade at 140 k on a STOCK 94 4-runner, I've seen 22res that need to be rebuilt every 150k or so like clockwork (I'm not impressed when an '87 is still on the road and its had 2 engine rebuilds). Just today I was under a co-worker's '93 truck and it has a rust hole in the frame the size of a 5x7 picture... Much worse rust than was on the '89 cherokee he owned previously. (know what killed that? A trip off a 20' bank onto a boulder at speed)

Modified or not, the XJ cherokee with a 4.0, aw4 and 8.25 compares very favorably with anything toyota has made. Ever. Hell, the aw4 IS a toyota tranny...

But like I said, most jeeps aren't those XJs and toyotas on the whole are much more reliable than jeeps.

Oh, and I'd like to see some pics of a real FJ60 that's got 400k on its original engine/tranny/t-case and has been DD'd and wheeled on 35s its whole service life.

I have to respectfully disagree with the wont last 10 years crowd.
As technology has improved, vehicles built today will out last damn near anything in our history.

Granted unibodies seem weak and plastic dont like collisions, but plastic doesnt rust either.
Take a look at most 80s vehicles you still see running around, original engine? original tranny? doubtful...

I appologize, looking back at my response I was simply stating engine to engine. I had several full size chevys and was greatly disappointed at what the engine would do. I felt that the structure was good, but the engine was lacking greatly in both chevys.

Comparing a truck to an Acura wasn't such a great comparison, as has been noted. First off, of course your Acura runs better...what's it weigh, 2000lbs LESS than a 1500 Chevy truck? Even a 1500 with 300hp wouldn't run all that great. A Vortec was 255, starting in 1996, and they ran okay. A lot better than the 95's did.
But if they had 45 more hp, they still weren't going to win any races.

Going back to 95

i dont like anything past 1995.

I do quasi agree with this. Seems like 95 was the last year for all good models and they either discontinued them or changed the body style. For instance 95 was the last year the RX-7 was made, last year for the Nissan Pathfinder in the boxy body style, They stopped importing Land Rover Defender 90's then, last year for the Toyota MR2 (sweet Lotus looking body style), They stopped with the wrangler then and then in 97 came out with the round headlights. I could keep going but overall, I love all vehicles from 95!

The only thing I like about the later cars.. '98+ = LS1.

wow... simply wow... a whole lotta dick swinging in here for such a dumb thread.

the answer was in the first few posts, simply demographics.

No point in being a douche. I wasnt really looking for an answer, just looking for other peoples opinions. thats why this is in the Chit Chat forum.

The sword fight forum isnt up yet.... sorry to get your panties in a wad. :gay:.
