I am looking for some info. I have a 91 XJ that I do not have a title for. It is modded a little bit. I am going to take everything off of it and put all the mods on a jeep that has a title. I was thinking the 88-92 would be the same specs etc. The jeep i have is a 2 door automatic with a 4.0.

TIA

The 84-96 all "look" the same, 97 was the first year with the new front clip and rounded tailgate.
84-86 didnt have the option for a 4.0L, the 87 got the firewall dent to fit the longer 4.0L.
They used a Renault-Bendix (Renix) fuel injection system til 1990, then Chrysler intro'd their MPI as the HO version in 91. So in direct reply to the OP, 88-90 models are pretty different than 91-92 if you are swapping drivetrains.
Pretty sure all XJs (84-01) used the same suspension.

It would seem you need a 91-95 model to make a swap easy.
As said, before 91 used a different fuel injection system, along with a few other small differences, and after 95 jumps to OBDII systems, then after 97 is a different body(slightly) and a different interior.

Thanks guys. I'm glad I waiting to buy the "swap" vehicle. Need to adjust my search and go from there.

What year did they stop using the Vac-disco front axel?
