I have a 97' Cherokee in need of a decent motor. I know 99+ Grand Cherokee engines motor mounts won't work. But will the 93'-98' Grand Cherokee Engine work in a Cherokee??

If he uses a motor older then 96 won't he have issues with computer which means he will have inspection issues?

No, not at all. We're talking about engine replacement, not an engine swap.
He will swap all of his later model components and electronics onto the other engine. There will be no issues whatsoever, mechanically or otherwise with this swap.
