.... Just seen another one of their commercials and I heard the announcer say it had a "multi-air" engine..... Can someone please tell me what a "multi-air" engine is? Are they just making crap up now? Lol

Variable valve timing?

Well, I see that being failure prone. Hope it is a non interference engine. By the video, I would guess not though.

That was my thoughts Brian, especially after watching the video. People that buy vehicles like the "Renegayed" aren't known for keeping up with vehicle maintenance either..... Lol

Welcome to the almost ubiquitous world of variable valve timing strategies. Multi-Air is Fiat's trademark for their version, we all know V-Tec from Honda, etc. It is amazing to consider all the ways this is done now. There are controllable valve lifters, rocker arms, cam phasors, extra valves, lash adjustors, etc. I would not want to fix any of them.

I would hope that the fail-safe mode is normal valve actuation off the camshaft but I cannot determine that from the video. That would prevent issues with valves contacting the pistons.

Im not sure what is gayer, the Renegade or the Liberty....or that damn song that they technically implant in ym brain...

Hey -ey ey....Hey-ey-ey Living like a Renegade...

Multi air is an infinitely variable valve timing and lift setup that is completely run on oil pressure solenoids that are controlled by the PCM. The one cam it has runs the exhaust valves like normal and has lobes for each intake that are nothing but oil pumps. If it fails it fails safe and does not open the intake valves. When it isn't working it sounds like an engine turning over with a busted timing belt.
