I bought a trailer today the wheels are rusted and tires are shot. I have a set of aftermarket 5 star 15"x8" aluminum wheels that I want to put on the trailer.

I was wondering if this is a bad idea?

size of trailer? weight rated on trailer? I'm guessing the wheels are rated between 1750 - 2250 per wheel, so if its a utility trailer, go for it. if its a car hauler, look up the spec on the wheel, if its 2k pounds, 4 wheels = 8000 pounds rated.

Thanks that is exactly what i was looking for.
Don't forget to factor in your trailer weight when figuring. I have a Dodge Dakota bed trailer, and it weighs 1000# and sets on a pair of jeep wheels. If I load more than 600# in it, it rocks bad (like side-side rocking, like a boat sitting on rough chop). I'm guessing thats got to do with it went from SUA to SOA and I didn't move the shock mounts lower, running them at the top of the travel.
