st. 6 out of a xj put in a yj ran fine then just died on the trail will turn over but will not start we have tried everything what could it be any help

fuel, spark, computer or ignition control module, starter solenoid, battery, good grounds etc...

If it is getting fuel, I would bet it is the CPS

Will it start if you push on the gas some? Maybe idle air control valve.

And make sure to check the rail pressure. Just because you can smell fuel doesn't always mean it's getting enough.

And if you have acceptable pressure, be sure to check the VOLUME (flow). Brents ZJ showed enough pressure, but due to crapped in-tank pump, wouldn't generate a Dixie-cup full of fuel...

IMHO, you'll quickly grow tired (& broke) from throwing parts at a FI engine. Better read up (& follow the tips given here) to troubleshoot it *intelligently*...

Sounds like the fuel system is clogged up or your fuel pump is bad.

x2, if it will run on starting fluid etc, then it makes sense that you have a fuel delivery problem. Focus your attention on those areas. Read back through what the others posted about fuel pressure/flow etc.

I'll throw out a WAG that it's likely something sensor related, keeping the pump from energizing...

Or something ridiculously simple (stoopid) like a bad FP relay or blown fuse...
