First of all, like the title says the 97 TJ with a 4.0 wont restart when hot.

Whats been done/changed... since this problem has been plaguing me i have replaced the distributor, ignition coil, crankshaft position sensor, coolant temp sensor,... The "camshaft position sensor" is in the distributor assembly so I guess you can say that has also been replaced.

I have good fuel pressure even after shutoff. Have even replaced the new crankshaft position sensor. What next? The jeep runs good and idles good while running, but when I drive it, get it up to normal running temp (just under 210) then cut it off the jeep wont recrank until it gets much cooler.

BTW... I can roll and jump it off when it wont recrank...

not a ton of info to go on....but 2 quick thoughts.

Is timing right?
Not sure if 97 is comp controlled timing if not sounds like its a tad high.
How abotu starter...when you try to crank it hot does it turn over good?

i know you mentioned good fuel pressure after its hot, and you cut it off. but what about spark? have you checked for it? see if you have any spark after it gets hot, if not, try taking a cold cup of water and pouring it onto the ignition coil. sounds like your coil is breaking down internally......if nothing else, it wont cost you any money to check it....and good luck, let us know what you find

havent really noticed losing water but it seems like its very little.

I have already changed the ignition coil, also. Did that yesterday and the problem still occurs

my first car was an MGB. i put an aftermarket header on it and it did the same thing the problem was that the pistonwas pulling air back through the manifold and this was creating some kind of vapor lock on the motor, so after some grinding on the manifold flanges and a new gasket the problem was fixed, hopefully it will be that simple for you
