Jeep xj tcase upgrade

Clocked Dana 300. By the time you buy the case, the flip kit, new driveshafts, etc you're looking at well over $1000. Also try a 242 maybe.

You could bolt in the TJ/JK Rubicon transfer case. It has the 4:1 gearing already or you could bolt in the NP241J from a non Rubicon JK. It has the same gearing as the 231 but has the upgraded planetary gears and no slip yoke

My question is what is the failure mode of the 231 case, how much lift, etc. Only way I ever grenaded the 231 was 1. Dry asphalt, 2. Lift/need for sye/bad angles. Had a wrangler spit out the rear driveshaft and bend the output shaft.. Put a sye in and no more issues.. Ran my xj in 4lo pulling a van out of a ditch and stretched the chain since asphalt was dry. Replaced chain and didn't use 4wd on dry asphalt since you're not supposed to anyway. 242 is differentiated in 4 Hi unlocked, allowing safe operation on dry surfaces. Tires different sizes? That will kill chains too, as will lack of lubrication.

Not to hi jack and feel free to hmu on pm but I have heard reverse clocked 300's have bad leak and lubrication problems. I'm also in the boat of wanting something bigger and can get my hands on cheap 300 in good shape but read bad things about going drivers side with them??

Not that it matters cause they are somewhat a private stash but $100. My issue is the leaking and living problems I have read about when they are flipped. I am wanting to see if someone can debunk this??

If interested in a 241 from non-rubicon JK, I've got one for sale on here.

6 gear planetary from a dodge np231 & HD chain & gear.

As asked, what's the failure mode? Case breakage? output shaft? spitting out the chain? What were the conditions when it happened? What are the spec's of your rig?
