Very cool.

I think I know a few people that worked on that. I know it was a Mahindra project in that area but didn't know what it was. That's probably it.

Saw that earlier today and was going to post it. Too bad it's limited to 45. Im curious to see whether it will be dot compliant for in road use.

Yes very cool ..... A Suzuki CJ-5!

At 3k+ lb with leaf springs, 65hp and 3.73s, it's not going to offer much competition I don't think. Maybe if they make them street legal. A base model JK isn't that much more expensive than this thing, either

it'll need 5.38 gears to be anywhere near off roadable. Travesty to use the name Willys to describe what they have in any shape or form.

Seems like it's basically a jeep-looking Samurai.

Yup. Just a little longer. If it is street legal and had a sub-$10k purchase price, they'd sell bunch.

If the tcase is geared top and bottom like a Sami, it'll be ok stock. Any mods or bigger tires will leave it wanting more.

I'm partially hoping that deeper gearing is the reason why it's limited to 45mph, not lack of hp.

Where have you saw a base model JK for 15k? These are also the size of a very old CJ5 or CJ3b.......not the near half ton pickup size of all modern Jeeps. These little things are also rated at towing roughly 3500 pounds. Apples to apples they are not any like a modern Side by side or a Highway use motor vehicle.
I could see a retro fit or permitting as a low speed vehicle.....
Now let's compare them to that market and hands down I'd drive or own one over these fuggly golf cart contraptions.

I didnt say you could get a JK or $15, but you can get them in the 20s. Used you can get one for $15.

I agree that there isnt a real comparison between this and anything like it, other than maybe a sami. But the market that most of the companies are catering to isnt comparing those things. They are looking at what they can finance and get out in the woods the easiest, so that lumps this thing into the SxS/Jeep category. Sometimes building something different and trying to create a market, isnt the best move.

96" WB and essentially dana 44s (another article mentions you can use off the shelf d44 gears). Depending on the steering, which will probably be easily upgradable, it should be easy to get it up on 33's or 35's and have a good time in the woods. Pricey, but pretty cool. If I had more expendable income, I'd be all over it.

100 lb tires and 65 hp?
You're not going to have a wild time very quickly :D

Hey, that's on par with most of the older suzukis and toyotas out there!

It does have decent torque off idle with the diesel, but either way, the main problem would be the gearing. Not sure if the dana 18 or 20 in it has any kind of deeper low range available. I think they had 3.15:1 for the 20, and even with the lowest d44 gears, you are talking about 70:1 crawl. With all your torque available at idle and assuming it'll be close to 3500lb on 33-35's, would that be good enough? Probably fine for most stuff, but maybe not for the gnarlier spots.

For the amount of money, you could build a stripped down buggy or upgrade an existing rig, but there is something nice about having all new parts. Not sure if it's $20k nice tho.

Yep.
And how many times do you hear people say, "Man when I put 35s on my old Toyota it was super fast!" :D

It would definitely be more tractor and less ATV!

Willys STILL the benchmark since 1942

I'm not sure where you guys are getting comparing this thing to a Samurai. The article says that it is about the same size as a CJ7. This thing has a 96" wheelbase. A samurai has an 80" wheelbase:)
