A friend has a stock 2015 JKU with street tires. He has an opportunity to buy some 285/70/17's. Will they fit without at least a budget lift? Like bone stock, no lift, will the tires work ad not rub?
I ran 315/70r17’s with no lift or cutting for a month or so when I had mine. Rear would scrub on the flares if it compressed but nowhere else if I remember right. I did have AEV wheels though which I think are offset differently than stock. Put 1.5” springs on it and ran it like that with no rubbing at all until it got totaled.
Those are 32.7"x11.2" tires. From what I've seen (no hands-on experience with JK) they'd fit just fine. Would definitely look a hell of a lot better than with those tiny donuts they come with.
The stock tires are 255/75 R17 and barely measure as a 32"x10" so the 285/70s are about an inch taller and an inch wider. There is also a good bit of variance between different manufacturers. I've seen 285/70s that were actually well over 33".
I put 285/70 Destination MT/2s on my JKU and they are quite a bit larger than the stock tires.
