So I got a call from my grandmother earlier today and it seems her water heater has busted. Shes 91, and needs it replaced, I am getting the honors. Pretty easy its in a basement right beside a garage door, newer house shut off vales near by...easy job.

Now my step mother works for one of the largest (maybe the single largest, not sure) water heater manufacturers in the country. She is in Charlotte, I am in Greenville, SC Grams is in Gaffney, SC. So I could drive to Charlotte and get a water heater for free or darn near, but I'm thinking a Lowe's one will work just as good and by the time I figure diesel and time cost the same. So I call the local Lowe's closest to her house (there is a lowes literally 1 mile from her house but I will drive by 3 more to get there, in case they dont have what I need I can stop along the way) ask for plumbing.

The bad thing is you know what you want/need and he still can't help. Imagine the poor SOB that doesn't know what they need and is trying to get the guy in plumbing to help.

I would go meet James if for nothing more than to get a visual.
 
You should go. I took a squirrel proof bird feeder back to Lowes... With a squirrel traped inside it. The little girl at the service desk screamed like she was in a horror movie! The manager wanted to take pictures, he was going to send them to the vendor. I just wanted to swap it for a non defective squirrel proof bird feeder!:D And a gas heater!
 
I bet you have a diesel fuel heater laying around somewhere. Take it to him and tell him that this is what you were looking for.
 
James needs to be reported for smoking pot on the job. lol

Back in college during the summer I built rafters & trusses in Locust, NC.
We'd get so many new guys with this one or go over to the other building and get me a knot puller/filler.....good times.
 
what you need to do is call that lowes back and find out if james has been unlucky enough to produce any offspring. then contact those offspring and make sure they arent employed anywhere they could come in contact with or operate guns, cranes, sharp things, 18 wheelers or nuclear reactors. no doubt some of his "genius" was passed down to them.
 
I always enjoyed sending the newbies to the other steroshops for the 6x9 hole saw. We had 4 shops in on it, they would go to the first and they would send them to then next. The last guy would tell them we called and said never mind and send them back up the line for the left handed antena stretcher.

I went to the lowes in question and I met James.
James should not have been put on the phone. I am sure James is trying very hard but he is a community out reach hire. Talks pretty normal, but obviously has limitations.
Now I feel like a dick for laughing at the handicapped guy.

That made me laugh hysterically at work to the point of my boss making sure I was at a work appropriate site.
