I miss the days when you could roll into the junk yard with some hand tools and a cutting torch.

Don"t know of one where you can roam around and pilfer anymore.

Occasionally Speedies in Candler has an item or two.

Wait you cant actually go and pick your own parts from the junkyards around here? Every junkyard up around Richmond you can go in with anything but a torch, pilfer and get any parts you want. That takes all the fun out of it.

That's how I spent my spare time in high school.....

Nowadays you have to call them and ask what they have. Then they tell you a price and they pull it for you. it's not like the good ole days. used to, I would ride around and check out a few different yards. it was fun. now it's formal and most prices are sky high for rusted out transfer cases.

Not sure exactly where you are located, but you can check here and see if one of their locations is near you. These are all pick your own part junk yards.

Up here in MD most of the yards are "closed" (e.g. you don't go in), but we have a chain called Crazy Ray's.
They let you go in and pull whatever you want. Rules are... no torches, no car batteries, no driving on the lots (some of which are huge). You bring your own tools. People walk in using ruggedized wheeled luggage w/ battery-powered sawzalls and impacts.
Prices are pretty cheap but come w/ the risk of cars sitting on stacks of tires (lifted by some yahoo to get an engine out). Very high turnover rate.
