Just lost most of my favorite camping spots

Yeah politicians playing more gun control. VA does offer a non-resident CCW permit. Maybe worth getting if you visit VA often.

I am going to wait to see how this plays out, but I appreciate the tip, and may opt to go that route if necessary. Presently, most of our favorite camping spots are in the Jefferson and Mount Rogers areas. All are easy access and within a reasonable distance. I sure wouldn't like having to give up on them.

It's stupidity runoff from DC.
Funny thing is I know people who have held permits in both states and instructors who teach in both states ....... the requirements are real close to identical.

It's just political BS and the fact VA is nothing more than a suburb of DC.

Granny don't camp unless he's packing. And that ain't no sausage he's hidden. I don't blame him. I carry on most remote areas rules or not. "Bad things happen in the forest." Seriously though I prefer to be able to legally help my self because in some places you are hours not minutes from a man with a badge.

If I'm in the woods or camping, I'm gonna open carry anyway, which is still perfectly legal in Virginia for residents and non-residents. Concealed carry is for Urban and Suburban areas where I don't want attention drawn to the fact that I'm carrying a gun. Bears and Coyotes don't know the difference, and I can draw faster from open carry.

Don't let stupid politics take your favorite camping spots from you.

In alot of areas govt owned and private are against carrying period. Isn't the trails at unf considered a gun free zone. Last time I checked no open carry just like booze?

I'm not sure about Uwharrie, but I just checked Gearge Washington and Jefferson NFs, where I frequent, and you are correct, outside of hunting season, you can concealed carry with a permit, but no open carry. I would imagine Uwharrie is the same, but it would be governed by NC state law.

So assuming those are the areas granny is talking about, He's right, He's lost his favorite camping spots :(

For the record, State Law dictates whether or not open carry is legal in a National Forest. In NC, it's OK. In VA, it's not. The same applies to concealed carry... state law dictates.

On another thought, I hope the powers-to-be of the other 25 states don't go off half-cocked and retaliate on VA. The root of the problem comes down to one bad word... Democrat. The average citizen of VA should not have to shoulder the blame for this fiasco.

Granny is spot on. Both interpretation of the law and the "democraps".
