If you've ever driven a 73-87 (up til 91 if you're rockin a crew cab) Chevy or GMC and had the....pleasure....of towing a trailer, you know the mirrors leave a lot to be desired. Anybody seen anything different done to these trucks? West Coast style mirrors are cool and all, but they're kinda hard to find and fairly expensive if you do find them. I love the 99-06 GM towing mirrors (tall and square with a lower, convex mirror) and have a set on my Silverado.

I know there are some smart people that frequent this site, so help me out guys! I'm a machinist, so I can make most anything it would require, I just need some good ideas.

Thanks in advance!

I have a 73 c30 camper special it has spacers to move the mirror out 6 inches. I also put them on my dodge for towing and love them

Mine just has the standard issue tripod mirrors, with updated heads on them (found on 90s GMs and Dodges). It originally had the tall west coast mirrors that also attach at the top of the doors as well, but those were long ago knocked off by trees, and impossible to find now.

Which mirrors do you currently have? The sport mirrors that have the chrome molded base on the door? There are "sliding" mirror heads available for that style mirror that allow you to extend the mirror head out 4" or so when towing, while keeping a stock look otherwise. I have seen people get rid of the vent window and replace it with a steel sail panel to attach newer style mirrors to that area. I don't really think it looks all that great, but I have seen the newer GM tow mirrors and Dodge (moose antler) mirrors adapted to that area on this generation of trucks.

I ever tell you how awesome that truck of yours is?!

It's just got the regular old stock mirrors on it. Nothing chrome though. It's all flat paint.

When you say stock, I assume you mean these?

There was a version of these where the tube that goes in the mirror head was extendable and would slide in and out. Not ideal, and looked awkward extended, but more useful than the stock mirrors.

Oh, and thanks by the way:driver:

Yep, those.
