I have a 87 K5 blazer and the steering wheel is loose where the joint is for the tilt steering on the steering column, i can grab the steering wheel and move it up and down and side to side a little. I am sure it is a very common problem with these trucks/blazers/burbans because i have seen a bunch of them that do it. So i was wandering is there a way to tighten it back up or do you have to replace the whole steering column???? Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yep, sure can tighten it up.

if you are lucky, usually it's just the bolts loose, you'll need to pull the wheel, the steering wheel lock ring and turn signal switch assy, I forget if those bolts are torx or not, but you'll want to pull each out, apply lock tight and then reinstall.

If you are Unlucky, you'll need to break to column down and replace the tilt pivot, a real pain in the ass.

I'm sure I've missed a step or 3, but there is the gist of it. it's been a few years since I've done that repair.

85+ should be torx I think...

also if you go in that far replace the 2 plastic bushings that house the metal ball bearings (geeat design there GM metal eats plastic Who knew??) on the shaft on either side of the pivot point. If they are not toast they will be soon.

As said add lock tight and dont get all he man on them you are threading into cast aluminum....it will strip, dont ask how I know.
