Keyless chuck removal

I have a DeWalt 1/2 drive drill with keyless chuck. I'm tired of my drill bits slipping so I decided to change to a keyed chuck. I can't seem to get the keyless chuck off. I removed the torx screw in the bottom of the chuck, and following the Jacobs replacement chuck instructions, I chucked a 3/8 allen tool in the drill, layed it on the bench and whacked the end of the allen in a counter-clockwise direction.... No go, and there is no way I can hit this thing any harder.

This drill has the button on the side to lock the motor down for changing bits with the keyless chuck, I can't hold it tight enough not to spin when I hit the allen tool, so I just stopped trying to hold it as I was worried it would damage the drill when it slips... The directions say nothing about trying to stop the motor from spinning anyway...

Any ideas?

Get a 3/8 Allen socket and put it on an impact wrench and try that.

No luck with the impact gun. I ran out of time to mess with it after I tried it. I'm not sure those instructions are right for my drill. They seem to be referring to a keyed chuck, I wonder if there is a difference in how the keyless models are removed??

I thought about the left hand threads, but then that would make the Jacobs replacement instructions incorrect. Not that Jacobs is infallible, but wouldn't that mean that the new keyed chuck most likely won't fit?

I'll try hitting the allen wrench again, except the other direction.

And for ol'Jeeps and lbyota85.... This thing is turning into the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog!
