OK I passed this on to a buddy that's an engineer for RF MicroDevices.
He said "too bad it's raining or we'd have a whole parking lot full of people outiside trying this right now".
His first thought - the phone is essentially working as an amplifier for the signal. Note you can similarly boost the signal by putting the fob up to your chi nand opening your mouth, uses your head as an antenna. It only takes a small boost to go a really long way.
But he' didn't really know either and said he'd pass it on to some of the more experience RF engineers.

My input - I have no f-ing idea.

Rich mentioned that earlier...and I will admit I have tested that (way back with my first car alarm) and it does work...might have brain cancer because of it one day, but it does extend the signal...

that's why I want to go back over to my mom's and try it from a much greater distance...using the same car, fob and phones...

Greg

BTW tried this last night, same vehicles.
Different cell phones.
Could not make it work.
Had 2 verizon phones. The wifes razor and my work LG...
tried both phones on each end, no luck...
I am at a loss
Maybe the antenna thing Rich mentioned explained the first experiment.

Also tried the neck thing, never seen that before, it did improve distance about 4 or 5 paces...Got a migraine (1st one in a while) last night though seriously, not sure if related or placebo effect, but damn
