Those kids have it made.. A smacking? eh I woulda laughed at that when I was a kid. In my days the grannys choice of punishment was a hickory stick and the folks used a belt, but hell, it worked, whatever I did wrong I didnt do it again. I have seen so many parents have no backbone when it comes to discipline. I wish I could give parents a good smacking from time to time!
I would have gladly taken a light smack as a kid, I remember having to go and get the hickory stick that my grandma would use and if she didn't like it, I would have to get another. Parents these days are so scaried of their kids...it makes me sick.

I bet our grandparents got the devil beat out em when they were kids. nowadays the kids punishment is no xbox or internet. I think a red @ss has more meaning to a punishment.
When I was a young kid my dad made me get the switch (some sort of stick) to use against me. If it wasn't good enough he went and got his own which usually ended up being way worse. When I got older though, he used a belt made by a prisoner (Uncle was a prison guard) that he never wore; I wore it more times than I can count. So now when my kids are bad here there is a punishment ranging from no computer/games to being on the business end of a belt. These kids actually know how to act out in public and at home which is more than I can say for some kids out there. Of course they are kids and they are going to get into trouble once in awhile.
i think i've told this before, but read a newspaper article several years ago about a man who was arrested for spanking his 14 year old with a 2x4.
sure...it sounds bad at first til the defense got the 14 year old on the stand to testify. then the jury realized theres not much else you can hit him with that would count...the kid was over 6ft tall and 280 lbs. The kid testified that he didnt feel it was over the top and he had deserved the punishment for sneaking out.
I just got spanked w/ my dad's big-ass hand. I was one of those over-sensitive kids (who'd've thought?) and really just seeing my parents upset (not mad, but like if they cried) was enough for me...
... but my mom used to say "If you don't straighten up I'm gonna get that old board with the nail in the end of it..." hahaha
