kidney stones suck.

Drink more beer

eh, you've no pain tolerance......seriously though, I had one a couple of years ago and on a scale of 1-10 pain wise, I would give it an 11-12. Not sure what mine was from, but up til then I drank like 3-4 glasses of pepsi everyday, after the stone, I went cold turkey on that and have since taken up water drinking and sweet tea when I go out to eat to "spice" things up a bit. Luckily I havent had one since.

If your drinking water has a high mineral content it's not helping. Do you have well water or city water?

Jeff B hit it. I cant drink our well water even though it taste great, to many minerals. Bottled water and beer....
Sorry for ya, BigRedB2. I know how you feel.

It all depends on what's causing them/caused them.
Mine were probably caused by tea.
(Tea is a very common cause)

My dog got kidney stones, (Yes, don't ask, he started barking and whining when he was trying to piss. Kind of funny, in the fact it was 3 days after I had them) his were caused by the ph of his urine being to low. So he get's powder to keep that up.

Unless you can capture the stones, you're just guessing, unless you did something obvious.
I gave up soda ~6 months before my first ones. Started drinking nothing but tea. But I was drinking a LOT of tea. Had them, then had more but not as bad about 6 months after, so I haven't touched tea since then and had one last bad bout with it about 3 months after that one. Nothing since. *knocks on wood*
It honestly is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

... and, as though having them dosn't suck, thsi part does too.

Mine were caused by tea ( had to catch them )and I was also told to cut way back on the caffine.(sp) Duke Medical Center did a study on Kidney stones and recomended drinking lemonade high in lemon juice. "Simply Lemonade" is the highest I have found. I have been Pissing gravel for 11 years and the no tea and lemonade has helped cut it to once a year instead of once or twice a month. Doctor also said Beer was a good thing.:beer::beer:
I have felt your pain.

X2 on high mineral content. Drink Le Bleu water... it has no minerals or additives. Dasani adds trace minerals. Inorganic minerals from rocks and such cannot be processed correctly, although they are absorbed by the body.

stones

yup, had 3 pulled out a week ago.
sorry dude. take the pain killers before you need them, thats my only advice.

Tap water is horrible, I cant drink that stuff. And I hate Dasani as well. I always drink bottled water. Sometimes store brand (ie. Food Lion, Lowes Foods, etc.) or a brand called "spring". I also usually have at least one sweet tea a day, but will drink about 2-4 bottles of water a day as well, depends on the days activities.

From what I've gathered, (this is the ironic part/sad part that makes my wife still give me crap) the tea caused ones are very similar to the low acid.
If your urine is acidic enough, it will dissolve the deposits that the tea, coffee and other beverages cause. Tea is the worst by far. (Most of this comes from a college buddy that's a Dr. Unfortunately, when we hang out, we might have 1 or 2 beers, so things might get blurred.)
My parent's neighbor back in Va was put on some pills that are basically the same thing that I have to give my dog. :)
I'm a stubborn bastard and refuse to pee into a fish net from walmart, well mainly I refuse to walk around with a fish net I pee through all the time.

The mineral type from tap water build up tends to be a much slower build up. BUT they are "more painful" because the tea deposits tend to break apart on their own a bit easier. Think of like sandstone versus granite.
Now I'll be happy if I never pee either of those out again? But I CAN see how the other might be more painful?

Best kidney stone story I've heard was a coworker in Hungary. He gets to Budapest, gets stones, goes to the hospital, they couldn't find a translator, Dr came in held up a knife, and a beer. Said, "You want cut .... drink?"
Coworker was NOT comfortable at first, then the translator got there from our plant. Dr was basically saying, they can try and do the surgery, but if he just drinks some beer and water, he'll probably just pass it on his own. :D

I have one about every 3-4 months it seems. Can't give up my Mt. Dew or Sun Drop, plus I was raised and still live on well water.

Knowing when they are coming is easy now, starts in your lower back one side or the other, moves to I swear yer nuts, then burning on the way out.

Got a couple trees out back named for them where they finally cut loose!

I'm not a beer drinker anymore at all but when one just won't budge I go get a 12 pack.

yea, I just drink the beer for medicinal purposes too.and the vodka is used for the numbing effects. lol

Thanks you captain obvious! Are you another poster looking for compassion because you dont\' have any friends either?

Wow. You must just be drunk, bitter, a choade, or an internet troll. (If the latter, damn it, I'm feeding you. Not cool)

Some of these guys ARE FRIENDS with us. And we do kind of care. Hell, I wouldn't even wish kidney stones on you.

Aight, well, maybe if there are a few more threads like this.

WTF.

Dude you need to really take a long look at your atitude and maybe even do a little homework before running your yap like this..
Aside from the fact that this is obviously something that is near and dear to the hearts of many folks on this board (did you even read the replies??), Reid is a very well known person here and contributes a lot to this board, and a friend to many of us.
A helluva lot more than you've provided yourself thus far.

thanks guys.

now that im no longer in pain and not all doped up on demhoral i can catch up with this thread.

My second stone in 5 years. guess im a bit more lucky than most of you. the nurse tried telling me it was just a small stone. Lol, some how i felt other wise but i wasnt going to argue as i heard the lady next door had a stone that was 18 centimeters (HOLY CRAP!).

Every 5 years is something i suppose i could live with so i dont think i'm going to be changing my diet. Not like theres anything to change anyway. I dont drink tea or soft drinks. no coffee either so i have almost zero caffiene intake. And Le Bleu is the only bottled water i drink.

The only things i could think of to change would be to drink beer (in a non drinker) and to stop going to URE during the dusty months!

Man...my hats off to you guys that have these damn things with frequency!

i had one, and it SUCKED....so FUCK YOU STINGRAY!!!

Glad you back and doing good....those pesky little rock demons. Dont look at it as drinking look at as moderate preventive medicine:lol:
