I'm sure there are some here that like a good knife or sword a little too much...like me😁
I'm mostly a knife guy and the former owner of Kryptoglow(Google)

Years ago I saw a glowing Spyderco manix that I couldn't afford. So I figured out how to make one. From there it turned into a pretty good business shipping as far as Russia, Singapore, Australia...I also designed a few multipurpose knives. Those knife reviews can also be googled.
I shut down when my parents needed me due to Alzheimer's.
Now I'm looking to make a tactical wakizashi type sword. I will use high quality steel and custom grips/Kryptoglow as soon as my shop is finished.
I bought this sword as it's very similar to the size and shape I've designed. The sheath is actually really nice. I couldn't make one for the price of this pkg. so I may make sure my sword fits this sheath and order a.butload of them😉
Anyway, here's the china sword I will customize and use as a pattern. It's nicer than a $40 sword should be. I'll update if I get this sword going.

It's on my bucket list to buy a few sheets of high grade stainless or even titanium around 3/16-1/4" thick to start cutting my own sword and knife blanks on the Waterjet machine at work. I know, it's $$$ but damn have I got some great ideas and designs.
I've cut .100" titanium blanks for filet knives before. Not sure what it cost the customer, but it couldn't have been cheap.

Go for it. If I had access to a water jet at work I'd probably get reprimanded.

I'm all about sharp objects. So I tried my hand at repurposing a junk yard Chinese 🪓.

First step. Remove the almost half inch of epoxy on the end. No wonder the head flew off.

The casting isn't horrible but the inside was really rough. Dremel cleaned it up and revealed a fairly hard alloy.

Few rough layout marks and a cut of wheel latter. Like my anvil from railroad track I wanted to use everyday tools.
Plus time and patience made much less heat.

Little tape to protect all the hard work.

Profile changes. Handle was toast. Cut the end off. In the name of cheap and full repurpose I turned it over and went to work. The wood is poor and soft. But we'll see. I used a 90 degree die grinder, file, and angle grinder for all the roughing. And since I'm metal guy all the consumables are meant for steel, lol!

You can make short work of some wood with a fresh 60grit flap disc! I removed all the bark from my live edge mantel with one 😂

No pictures got took of the numerous fit up checks and sanding. After roughing in I tried a coat of Johnson's paste wax. Liked it but I needed more work and it stained easy from my handling. Dang wood is junk soft...oh well I can make another more suited to the style latter.
Here is the finished product. I ended up wiping it down with burnt transmission fluid.😂 Preservative and stain all in one....zero cost.

And I have a thing for Tomahawks.

My hand for scale.

Poser pick.

Better view of the detail of the profile. I'd love to learn metal tooling or add real forge work.IMG_20220710_211649963.jpg
Little character added to the plain cast. I like the softened edges better.

Leading taper to the tip. Aids in a slimmer look.
Glimpse at the cutting profile. I didn't want stupid thin. It's a tool first. Right?
It is however a sharp tool. I honed it sharp enough to slice notebook paper easy enough.

I tried to keep all the textures and grind marks continuous or consistent.
Symmetry ended up pretty good for all freehand and a Coors or few.

Inner edge got the same treatment. Don't hate me for the wood glue I forgot to wipe....dag nab it.

This is pretty cool.

I've always been a bit of a blade fan-boy, especially growing up throwing tomahawks in the backyard as a kid. (We still do that every time I get together with my brother and sister for the holidays)

Kind of random, but I just discovered Scallywag Knives this week. It's in Southern Pines, NC. (Near Pinehurst)

They've got a mega-sale going on right now if anyone is interested.

I bought a pair of their Aluminum Dagger's in Tiffany's blue. One for my wife and the other for my sister... then after I ordered it I realized that my sister lives in New Jersey, where everything is illegal. So, I gave it to my sister in law.

These things are SWEET. Pictured below with their 'Key Dagger' that mounts on your keychain... I dunno. They were super cheap and cute so I ordered a few to play with.

Pretty versatile stabby-stabby, appears to go with most anything. I attached my wife's in her purse though... but there are -other- options....
