I poked around some of the forums and didn't really see any right now, but if someone knows someone who is doing a SAS, I might be interested in the IFS parts like the hubs, halfshafts, front diff, driveshaft, etc...

Apparently doing a 4wd conversion isn't too bad on the 2500HD's. Can't find any factory 4wd's with under 100k miles, 8.1/Allison, LT, for less than $15k .

Links for what in particular? I did some of my research the old way, using the "Air Force comparison method" - I parked next to a 4wd truck, and crawled under both of them.

The undercarriage is the same. The front suspension is the same. from what I read, when you knock out the dust caps in the knuckle, there are splines in there for the half shafts.

If you have an LT like me, one non-factory issue will be the shifter, since you couldn't get the center console with a manual-shifted t-case, and I don't want to think about retro-fitting an electric shift t-case's wiring and body controller crap..not to mention they fail often.

If you have an Allison, supposedly (This was posted by a GM tech who went to training on them) the output shafts are the same, so tail housing for a 4wd would be needed, and I bet you'll have a helluva time scoring one of those used.

yep, GM guy was right, and you'll pay hell finding them, and the electrical for the t-case was crap anyway. Manual cases are few and far used in base model trucks, but they do exist.

Divorce mounted Atlas, cable shift hidden inside console, twin stick of course, and a manual conversion to the front drive unit to replace the actuator.

gonna need new rear driveshaft anyway ( replace the beer can),

ya id do the divorce case with the factory front stuff, hell even my van was optioned for 4wd/awd the frame/cross members look easily removed and swapped out. As said a simple pull cable or lever to engage it. Do you really need a twin stick a stock single lever/pull would be fine.. ya id do 205 too

The reason there is little info on it is because these things always end up in "well I found this really good deal on a xxxx so I bought it instead". Even Ricky gave in.

twin stick.. riiiiight. But a divorced 205 would be the ticket, single cable-shifted...

The air would be pimp, but more complex and I don't think terribly DD friendly without lots of work to weatherproof the setup.

Gave up on what? I swapped all the IFS stuff from a dually 3500 onto my Z71, and a 3500 rear end too, hence the still IFS 1 Ton Z71 :driver: It actually really wasn't hard to do.

Rich I jusy had a guy come by saturday wanting to put a solid up front. If he ends up doing it all let you know and you can come get the parts.

Yea and it worked out real good considering Its been broken all except for 5 days in the past two months, been driving the Z71 since :shaking:

I didn't say it had been working. I'm just saying that 90% of the time it's a much better bet to start out with a 4x4 or a one ton truck rather than trying to turn your own into one. It's not like the z71 is the most reliable thing ever either.
