Found out at the trail maintenance day over the weekend. From the understanding we have, there were some substantial Indian artifacts found on both sides of the trail, so the Kodak rock trail (Rocky mountain loop) is closed pn both ends until December.

Pls say this isn't true...that was about the only trail worth riding at URE...

Oh man, this better be a joke. If not, I guess I won't bother buying a season pass. Probably won't bother going at all this year.

Not a joke guys... Guess people had better step up and help us get the other trail opened up!!

This, not going or not buying a season pass will not help the forest at all. The forest relies on the income from
The users of the forest and help from volunteers to keep it open. This is when the forest needs out help the most.

I will probably end up going when some friends that haven't been before or have smaller rigs want to go. Maybe a close camping trip but it will be like going to carrowinds with the roller coasters closed.

Exactly my point. They are willing to help us but there is alot of leg work that could be sped up with our help!!

Sorry but I call BS on this. These so called "artifacts" were probably planted by the trail closure advocates. How long have we been riding RML? Nothing has ever been discovered before. I know there are real artifacts all over the Uwharrie range but this sounds fishy to me.
It has eroded and then bulldozed several times. I just don't see it

this bothers me, I wont be buying a season pass this year however I will go. To pull on past experiances with the forest service. I honestly doubt anything we do will keep them from sutting down the trails eventually..

I'll buy a season pass as I do every year, and will continue to every year Uwharrie is open just to help keep another place from closing. However, I won't bother going with RML closed.

Not to be a dick, but I don't think my $35 is going to speed up collecting fossilized poo in the forest.

just talked to forest services trail is closed from slab pile to saw mill the rest of rml is going to be open

This sucks.... any idea on when it will be opened back up? Or is it gone?

As one of the unfortunate volunteers tasked with actually closing off the trail this weekend, it is my understanding it will be at least a year or the entire 2013 season.
That said, given the nature of what was discussed throughout the weekend regarding the archeological site up there, I don't see it ever being opened back up. As I said this weekend I believe it is gone permanently. I truly hope I get to eat those words but given our political climate etc, I just don't see it coming back.

How can we step up? Is there anything we can actually do to help open other trails? I've been away from the boards since December so I may have missed something myself and others can do to help facilitate trail openings.
