Me and my son are going to camp at the state park this weekend and ride on Saturday. Anyone rode there there that can suggest what trails to start out with? He is 10 and has rode all the trails at Tanglewood in a day but probably can't handle the whole 30 mile loop yet.

None are terribly harry......don't miss the Momba (spelling?) it has great flow for the area.

Can't remember the name but looking straight out the vistors center is a trail head. Nice big sign right beside it. You'll drive past it entering this parking area.It is all good gentle terrain and smaller loops as well.

Trails are a little more challenging than Tanglewood. Still, they're mild and he will have fun. Look at the trail map in the parking lot or check out the tar heel trailblazer website for trail info.

I live about a mile from there and ride with my 10 year old there pretty often. Hawks Loop is where I would start. I've never ridden Tanglewood, so I can't compare the two. Hawk has a could of pretty good little climbs, but nothing major. The direction of the trails for this year (they rotate) is probably better for for beginners than the other. Hawks has two loops off of it, Norwood and Hicks creek, that you can add for more miles. Hicks is an easy 1 mile loop and Norwood is a pretty easy 2 1/2 or so. I also like Wildlife, but it's a bit of a ride from the parking lot with a smaller kid, we usually just ride from the house so my son doesn't have to make the climb from the parking lot up to wildlife rd.

If you have any more questions just ask. If we were not going to a wakeboard competition t his weekend I'd try to meet up and show you around. The trails are marked very well, so don't worry about getting off track.

Thanks for the info guys. My son has really started enjoying riding with me more this summer and has started riding some of the more technical stuff so sounds like it will be a good time.
This is from Brunswick Nature Park he really like the ramps.

Check out NICA. For kids. My son road for Davie County. He placed in the top five of the state for juniors.

Rode Momba , Hawks loop, and Hicks Creek today. Took a break in the middle to eat and take a swim in the lake and cool off. Very good time got some ice cream at the visitor center after our ride, every trail needs that in the parking lot. Not sure what we will ride in the morning yet. He is now riding his bike around terrorizing the camp ground.

I had no idea they had ice cream in there! Actually, I’ve never been inside lol. Sure would be nice after a hot ride.

Ugh, y'all must ride differently than I do. If I had ice cream right after a ride, I'd surely puke! ( And I love ice cream, it probably makes up 25% of my diet!)
