got me a discovery. trying to see how reliable the axles/tranny are in these things.

Axles are the best part of a land rover. The rest not so much.
No offence but that is not correct.
What Discovery, D1 or D2. D2 axles are slightly stronger, but they arent strong by any means comparable to a Dana 30.
If you are upgrading diffs definitely upgrade the axles. The axles are very easy to pull on the trail however if you need to replace or do repairs.
What year disco as well?
