Laptop help?

Need computer help.

I have two laptops.

One I do a lot of design work and stays mobile from home to shop, and the other stays at the shop.

The other is for running the plasma table and other odd jobs.

The second one @ the shop doesn’t have enough graphics card or ram to do heavy design work, but is plenty for small stuff and running the machines here.

I want to be able to send files to the “shop” laptop, from my “work” laptop.

Currently saving files, sending email to myself, then switch machines, open and download from email.

Is there an easier way? Meaning is there a way to configure the drive on the one machine to save thru my network, rather than opening and thru email?

Ideally when I go to save a file, instead of saving on that “work” laptop, it saves it onto the other “ shop” laptop?

Doesn’t need to happen from home to the shop, both machines are at the shop, and on the same network.

Thanks in advance.

Set up a shared folder the laptop you want to host the files. Then save to that drive. You can assign it a drive letter on the other laptop.

Some programs will let you set a default file location, if you can, set that location to the drive letter of the share.

What OS are you running? Win10 is fussier on how to actually get it working, Win7 and earlier is far easier. A Mac shouldn't be all that much harder but I haven't played with the newer Mac OS's.

Honestly if you have a microsoft office subscription one drive is about the easiest now...they finally have their shit together

Gotcha.

The newer one is Win 11

Older one is win10 running classic shell to look like 7. ( this one originally had windows8 that I removed and update to 10)

Pretty much got this setup, just having an issue with password/permissions

Thanks

I do on one machine, and absolutely don’t on the other 🤣.

That was some of the hold up with just having Google drive up on both machines, it gets to be annoying when I have different google accounts for different things, And Google trying to sync everything all the time across everything.

Yup. That's the issue with Win10/11. I finally ended up getting a NAS enclosure and sharing everything to it. This way my Win XP laptop, the garage Win 7 laptop and the 2 Win 10 laptops and the Win 11 desktop all have access without issues.

Ahhh gotcha.

I can’t get the win10 machine to recognize the correct password/pin to avoid access to the folder on the win11 machine
