I have a Gateway MA7 with Intel Dual Core. It quit charging, tried different cable, that didn't work. Took it to a repair shop. They tested and said it wasn't the power jack, but the motherboard that was the problem. I picked up the laptop because they said it would be $500 for them to replace (they suggested not replacing it because of cost); I can buy a new laptop for that. But this has been a great laptop until now.

Any suggestions on where to buy a motherboard? I have googled it and since I've never bought computer internals like this before, I'm not sure who is reputable. Based on pictures I've seen, I think I can probably replace the motherboard myself if I found one for a decent price.

Motherboards in a laptop can be difficult to replace. I buy mine on ebay.

Does your laptop work on battery? If so it should be a simple repair. Maybe you just need to take it to another repair shop. We charge 100-150 including taking it apart and putting back together to repair charging problems.

It did work on battery till the battery died. I may contact another repair shop. Too bad your too far away.
