So my wife was asked to give a presentation and lead some group at a big conference in July in Las Vegas. The organization leading it is paying for her hotel room, flight, and food so all had to pay for was my flight and food.

Going to be going out Thurs July 10th and coming home on the redeye Sunday night the 13th.

Any recommendations on things to do? Thursday and Sunday it will be the two of us, but Friday and Saturday I'll be on my own till about 5-6.

We are staying at the Circus-Circus. I'm not a big gambler at all, might throw $20 in the quarter slots but that's it.

I will be out there for the 4 th of july for a convention im not much of a gambler but the shows are cool

Casino food is amazing! Dancers are smoking hot. Plan on loosing a few grand and watch out for chicks with dicks lol. Dont plan on sleeping, everything is 24 hours. Have fun

Quarter (even nickel if you can find them) slots are the way to go for the non-gambler type (like me). You get all the fun of winning (and losing) without losing your shirt in the process. They don't give out nearly the free drinks as the high dollar ones, but it's still a fun way to kill time.

I haven't been since 1995, so a lot may have changed, but we stayed at MGM Grand. The Luxor is way cool as is Ceasar's Palace. MGM was cool but HUGE. You needed a road map to find your way to anything.

Check out Dig This Vegas! I had a blast in a Cat D5 dozer when I was out there last year in August. They also have Cat 315 excavators. All of their equipment has air conditioned cabs so you'll be comfortable in the heat. They have shuttles so they can probably pick you up at your hotel/casino. They are located just off the strip. I had a blast!

Oh yeah... and when they say Vegas is a dry heat, it's BS... 115 is hot no matter where you are from. That's how hot it was when we went in July 1995

I'm originally from PA so any time it goes over 92-93 deg it pretty much feels the same to me.

We were there on the 4th in 2013 and lots to do.We went to the pawn stars pawn shop, its just a couple of blocks off the strip, and Ricks restoration is not far away either.Definately go to Hoover dam.Notice the water line difference??

I spent a whole dollar at the casinos.

Just went last November, walking around seeing the strip was pretty cool. Rented a van and went to valley of fire and red rock canyon, really cool hiking and climbing. Will really make you wish you had your rig with you...

Hit a buffet for dinner like at the Wynn for some good food but expensive
If you want to go to a club you can find deals all over for them don't pay the price at the casino/hotel. We aren't club people but Vegas clubs are crazy so we had to go to one. A double shot of patron was cheaper than a bud light
I just do the quarter slots to kill time and have fun. If you do the casinos players club which is free the often give you 20 bucks to gamble to sign up
Just go walk around all the big casinos it is pretty cool to see them
July is hot as shit there. Drink a ton of water if you are outside. If you walk the strip you can buy frozen drinks too as you walk around
The shows there are cool. We normally wind up seeing a cirque du soleil as the wife loves them and they out on a good show
Some places have some really good happy hour deals
It was hard to find free drinks at the big hotels unless gambling a lot. Go to a smaller casino and do cheap slots and it was easier to get drinks then at like Wynn, ny ny, etc

Fremont Street aka Old Las Vegas is a must do while you're down there. They have done a good job of cleaning up that area of LV and its a little less "Hangover" than the strip. The strip is cool for about a day until you realize that unless you feel like dropping lots of money, its just not that cool. Go to a bar that has the video poker machines built into it and pump about $10 into it and sit there drinking. They will usually comp most of your drinks so some money in those machines even if you lose a little is still going to be cheaper than a bar tab. Flamingo, Golden Nugget, MonteCarlo are all places this trick usually works. There is a country bar in the bottom floor of Treasure Island called Gilleys. Drinks are a reasonable price, decent music and scenery and there was a horribly trashy trainwreck of a mud wrestling competition one night when we were there a few weeks ago that made for awesome spectating.

ya... me thinks you're about to be schooled on hot then. There's a big damn difference in 90's and 110+. I was there in July as well and DAMN!

Oh, I'm not going to go there with any belief that I won't melt like a popsicle. I'm just saying that I am pretty damn uncomfortable in the NC summer anyway, so not like it is going to change THAT much. I mean, I wil definitely be MORE uncomfortable but at some point it will reach a point of diminishing returns.

I was like 10 when I went to vegas....it was really awesome though. wanna go back really bad. just walking up and down the strip and seeing all the excitement was really cool. as far as the heat....we went in July and it was like 103 degrees...but it felt much lower.
yeah, hoover dam is really cool...def wanna see that again.

I just spent a week in Vegas and turned it into quite possibly the most epic vacation I have ever had.

Days 1 and 2 were for a company meeting. I took out $200 in all $10's and tipped every person I could shake hands with- Doormen, bartenders, waitresses, managers, floor managers, and owners- collecting business cards from anyone who had them (I gave away all $200).

Days 3, 4, and 5 my wife was there and I started calling in my connections I met from days 1 and 2. I can't even begin to post what happened next, no one would ever believe me. But it was easily worth the $200. So my advice is to shake a lot of hands and don't be afraid to ask for upgrades ;).

Need to beat the heat? head to the top of Mt. Charleston. 120* desert.....climb a lil hill....now your are having snowball fight.s

^^ this is true! If you don't mind hiking up a few thousand feet you will find several feet of snow year round.
