Just wondering if any of you guys have had Lasik or any of the similar procedures and if so, what do you love and what are the downsides. I've been in contacts for 15 years, and my new job won't allow contacts in the shop. I'm really bad about fogging up (and losing) glasses, so prescription safety glasses aren't a good option. I've been contemplating Lasik for a few years, but this is a big catalyst. If I decide to do it, it will be in Charlotte, so any first or second hand experience with doctors would be good to know.

had a friend that did it, and x-wifey worked for eye doctor and seems that in charlotte that chrisenberry or whatever it is. google lasik eye surgery.

I looked into it, but found I was too near-sighted for Lasik, had to have the implantable contacts...at five grand PER EYE. I stuck with glasses.

Just be sure you go into it knowing how they measure "improved vision" in their 99.999% statistics...might get you to 20/20, but there can be other areas of vision that are not as good (contrast lighting, night vision, etc), but still counts in the stats as "improved" vision.

Plus, don't know about lasik (assume it's the same deal), but at least with the implants, as your vision continues to change, you end up needing glasses anyway (just not as thick, but the expense is all the same). Depending on your age, you may still want/need reading/close-up glasses.

I just got a retina tear lasered up at Carolina Eye www.carolinaeye.com Main office in Pinehurst, so out of your area, but they are well known and respected in the industry, and do a heck of a job.

BTW, for the fogging issue on glasses, try cat crap. Really... http://www.campmor.com/cat-crap-ant...html?source=CI&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=83081WC

It works!

edit: check out www.lifeafterlasik.com and www.lasikdisaster.com For more fun, google "lasik horror stories". Just go into it with both eyes open (groan...sorry).

I had it done. I went from 20/200+ to 20/30. Best money I ever spent.

i ad it done 12 years ago, best $3900 i ever spent. i went from 20/450 to 20/25 5 minutes after surgery, and to 20/20 the next day. i had it done in greensboro, dr stonecifer(sp)

I had Lasik done back in 1998. I must say as well that is was the best money I ever spent as well. Wore glasses and contacts most of my life until then. It was painless, only took about 30 minutes to perform. :beer:I am sure there have been a lot of improvements in the last 12 years.

Lasik or not?????????

Glad to "SEE" good advice being offered here. Good luck to the ones that are pleased with it. 20-400 or so dosent leave much choice. FDA is revisiting Lasik, due to recent crop up of problems . They may pull indoresment. Lot of problems occurring after5-10 yr. Perhaps they were not good canadints, or shady Docs mislead them. DO RESEARCH. I had cornea problems & could not do lasik. Always trusted Charlotte Eye,Ear,Nose,&Throat. BE VERY careful, & Good Luck:driver:

8 years, no problems at all. Best money you will ever spend!

I got it 4 yrs back. The led numbers give me trouble some time as well as night driving the first year. But with 20/15vision im happy. Also check intao the bifocal peoblems. Ie instead of needing them at 50 you might need them at 45. I went to duke asthestics and recommend them to everyone. Avoid the popup lasik places like laskic plus. They were not very professinal and thier big the was pk, at duke that was considered old

I had a friend that it done but it actually messed her up. After having it done the way her allergies affected her was much worse and she had to use special drops. She also said that she was one of the rare cases that did not take to the surgery so well. She is the only person that I know that has had it done so that is all I have to go on. But, just like any kind of surgery you want/need to have done always do your homework.
