anybody done it with BAD experiences?

cost in charlotte area? Dr of choice?

have developed and eye allergy and cant wear my contacts any more. not such a bad deal but I cant see to hunt with glasses. THAT is enough to make me come off the hip and get this shiz taken care of.

No bad experience here. I got mine done about 4 years ago down at Dr. Mozayeni at Providence Eye. It was quick and relatively painless (after the numbing drops wear off that shit burns). It took like 3 minutes per eye I think. He will tell you to go home and take a nap. Unfortunately, the numbing drops wore off before I got home and my eyes were watering uncontrollably b/c it stung like a mofo! I went to sleep as advised and woke up a few hours later and could see GREAT! I went in the next morning for my check-up and my eyes were as good then as they are now (20/15). I was back at work that day (i.e., day after procedure).

My eyes weren't real bad but it was just a hassle for me. I hated contacts, especially looking at a computer screen all day and not being able to see shit when I woke up in the mornings.

Mozayeni did mine as well about 10-11 years ago. Well worth whatever I paid back then. Still great distance vision (my contacts were around -5 for reference), but have started needed readers in the past year. That's just age though.
The only doctor I used to hear a lot of complaints from friends about is now out of business.

Same here. Providence eye Dr moziani (spelling) 10 years ago PRK, still 20/15.
I can't remember the price, but PRK is higher
Might of been 2,000.

Not to scare you off of LASIK but I had mine done about 6 yrs ago and my left eye got corrected to 20/15 but my right eye wound up at 20/40. Not enough correction for an enhancement, so I lived with it until the middle of last year and had PRK. My right eye is 20/15 but now my left eye is weakening. I am going to suck it up until both eyes need enhancements so both eyes wind up the same, hopefully

I've been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade. I have been thinking about it too for the past several years. I've read about some people who have persistent dry eyes after the procedure.

Had mine done 20 years ago and still see great. I do use readers at times for up close, but it is the age thing. Best money I have ever spent.

I am not sure I would base my whole decision on one old optometrist either @a_kelley

I see that most people who wear contacts are generally comfortable with things in their eyes (contacts, fingers, tools, etc) and have much less of an issue with the procedure where people that only wear glasses aren’t quite as used to things prodding your eyes. I could see where it could make someone squirmish if they have only been used to glasses and not contacts.

I would love to do it, but knowing what they do and being awake for it, really freaks me out.
I once had to have a vitrectomy (replace fluid in the eye) and the doc was telling me about how they stick a needle in my eye to numb it. I assumed I'd be asleep for that part but he said no, but after the drugs you won't care. He was right. Sometimes drugs are good.

True enough, but that's not the only source of such information..

Well, there was that weather lady that offed herself right before Christmas over a botched lasik job....

I don't know if it was lasik, but a friend of mine had some kind of laser procedure about a decade ago. He told me he cried after the procedure/recovery. He cried because he thought about having it done for years and waited so long. He said now he could see better than he could when he was 15 yo. and he was in his 40s.

I go for my consultation tomorrow morning at 10 AM. TLC in Charlotte is who was recommended to me. I’ll post up the info tomorrow around lunch.

I've worn glasses since I was four - then went to contacts and increased my handsomeness by ten fold at the end of HS.

Asked my doctor, and he basically told me that at 35 years old, it's not worth the investment because in 5 to ten years I'd probably need bi-focals anyways. That was a kick to my... apparently... old nuts.

TLC in Charlotte
PRK and LASIK are same price
$2495 per eye
VSP insurance = down to $4400
Military discount = $4290

That price includes everything for the first year of follow ups.

Does TLC still offer the lifetime guarantee? When they were in Raleigh 18 years ago they did mine. 20/15 in both eyes right up to the reading glasses age (doesn't help that) and then cataracts developing a couple years ago. Now lenses are artificial and back to 20/15 again. And those damn reading glasses.. ;-)

I did a consult at Porter Ophthalmology in Raleigh back in November and it was comparable to the quote you shared. I think it was either right around or just under 2k per eye everything included as far as followup appointments for the first year and lifetime "Touch-ups" (but they are not expected to be needed) I put some extra money in my HSA for 2019 and hope to have it done sometime after July.

I still gotta read the fine print, but “yes”, they still have the lifetime warranty. They already explained to me that I qualify for the warranty as long as I see a TLC affiliate each year for my annual checkups.

Just think, after the Lasik, you won't need glasses to read the fine print :D

I got lasik last summer at providence eye care by Dr. Mozayeni. It was around 4k I think and has been great. My eyes weren't that bad about 20/40 to begin with. I just hate wearing glasses. Now have 20/15.
