ok guys got my power steering installed just need to go buy a belt. The question is what size belt do I need. I don't want to go and buy a bunch of belts just to have to return all but one. I am going to run the belt from the pump pully to the fan pull down to the crank pully and back up. anybody running it this way and know length and width of a belt would be nice. I am going to get the belt after work. I guess if I don't hear anything watch out autoparts store I am going to come out with a arm full of belts. just let me know guys. thanks

How about you go the the parts store and ask for a belt from a 1978 CJ V8 with PS, see what they give you? The air pump, or lack of, may be the snafu.

Run a piece of string around your pulleys, measure the length of said string...compare to what the parts store gives you...

you ask about width...isnt this a standard V-belt (as opposed to serpentine)? Serp. belts come in different widths, if is the V-belt, you shouldn't need to worry about any width differences.

When I installed the 5.0 in my cab truck, I removed the air pump, and mounted a GM alternator on a custom bracket, so had nothing to go off of for the belt. I bought a seamstress (cloth) measuring tape, and routed it around the pulleys to get the length I needed. I got it right the first time. Belt fit perfect. I recommend picking up one of those seamstress measuring tapes.
