Lazy man vacuum

Roomba or any other brand. Who has them? What to look for and ones to avoid? My whole house is laminate if that matters. I realize they aren’t the end all be all. Looking for one I could get to help with dog hair so I’m not sweeping and vacuuming everyday.

We have a roomba....not sure of the model. I think it does a pretty good job. My only complaint is that it’s just the right size for getting stuck under a couple pieces of furniture and the dish washer. We keep our house pretty clean and that thing is full of dirt/dust just about every time it runs.

Are your floors carpet or hard surface?

We have an ilife brand one. It works amazing, keeps our floors fairly clean between real vacuuming. Our dog sheds like 5 normal dogs put together. Works well on wood and carpet floors. Best xmas present I have ever gotten.

Some models go randomly and others go in a set pattern. Our roomba is a random model. It does pretty good on our floors, but the catch container is small, so it doesn’t take long for fur to fill it up. We did have it programmed to go everyday, but for some reason we canceled that, now it only goes when we remember to hit the button. We need to program it again.

Roomba here. Though I can't remember the model. I'll say this about them. Sure they're handy for the lazy man but they collect hair/strings/floss in the rollers and they don't get that shit out themselves. Every two or three rounds you'll have to open it up, pop the rollers out, cut the strings/hair/floss and then put everything back together. It's easier just to vacuum yourself and when you're done, it's done. Something about the idea of having to perform maintenance cleaning on a vacuum displeases me.

Roomba too. Trick is only run it when your home. We have several friggin critters. Keeps the wife sane and scares the cat. I love it. Set little blocking devices in doorways and let it rip. The space under the bed has never been so clean.

If my wife wouldn't gripe every piece of furniture would get a lift kit.

My wife just bought the Bob Sweep brand. The pet hair plus one. Had it about two weeks now. It has a mopping function that seems to make her happy.
I can vouch for the amount of dog hair and crud it’s picked up after it runs.

I will say we came home one day and it was stuck half under the dishwasher and half on her Wellness mat.

Best of all it makes my wife happy.

We have a Roomba. It’s ok I guess. It always gets things stuck in the rollers. Kids toys, cords, rug tassels, shoe strings, rugs, girls’ hair ties, etc etc. I got tired of fixing it. I think it’s stuck on a toy under the couch at the moment; been like that at least 3 weeks.

We have had a roomba for a few years now. It does get stuck every now and then, but it still go under our couches and clean. That's one of the best parts to me. We have hard floors and carpet. Set it to run every day when we are at work. We have to empty the trap every day. We have 3 dogs and it keeps the place reasonable.

The wife keeps bugging me to get on board with these for a few years now. She wants a ‘pet one’ for down stairs with multi surfaces and one for upstairs which is all carpet. In theory they sound great...but it’s all this little stuff everyone has mentioned that makes it seem like they don’t make sense for me. Wedges under furniture, wedged under appliances, dog pukes, kid drops something on the floor, until I do a night time clean the house is a mine field of dog/kid toys creating blockages. Then the maintenance of the actual machine and with my super duper vacuum I can suck up an entire canister of dog hair in about 2 rooms and she’s not that bad of a shedder...that sounds like a lot of cleaning out the robots dirt can. Couple that with still having to vacuum and online reviews say those things don’t always sync/update well all the time. Add all those little things together, plus the price tag of a ‘good’ robot vacuum...it feels like it would be more work than it saved. And perhaps I’m a bit ocd, but watching those things take an arbitrary path pains me.

The biggest kid space it sees is my side of the bed. We have hard woods and our youngins rooms are their on responsibility. I could clearly see them choking on all sorts of objects. They clearly aren't meant or marketed for such.

Pet hair and a quick detail are what they are about.
If ya need a maid or the kids a nanny cause they don't pick up, this ain't it.

We had a Roomba and gave up on it, after you account for the maintenance and the places it can't/doesn't get, it wasn't worth it. Clearly others here have had better experience. Also it drove the animals crazy.

I will say this though - if you have all that laminate to sweep, the best compliment to a Roomba-esque robot is a GOOD battery powered stick-vacuum.
We bought one of these and it has been awesome. Worth every penny. It's super easy to use, has fantastic vacuum, doesn't spread/spin particles around, and the battery life is great.

It seems trivial but I love the fact it has a light at the bottom, it highlights all the little dust specs and dust bunnies so you can see where you haven't been, and the neck folds down flat to easily slide under couches and such.
Because of the battery and being lightweight and simple to use, it's juuuuust convenient enough to not be a big deal to think, "Oh I need to do something about that dust," grab it quick and run for 5 mins and be done.

It’s nothing terrible...but would relegate me to running it at night while we sleep...

But I still feel like I’d wake up to it being wedged in this gap (edit angle doesn’t show that’s about 2.5”)...maybe I’m wrong

These are all the reasons we gave up on ours. We felt like the sum total of work was no different that not using it. IMO they are great for neat families w/o pets or kids and big open spaces but when you have a lot of crap for it to deal with, you just can't beat the work a human with a good nimble battery push "broom" vac can do.

I'm half carpet, half hard floors. I don't have on, but guess it would make the transition . But Kitchen table, chairs, couches with skirt, low dressers, & All the lamp, TV, cords & cables? My regular vacuum will eat those. Can't see how a roomba, would help!
