I have an '80's model J20 d44 front axle. Im putting TJ control arm brackets on it. My problem is, where my lower left bracket needs to go is half on the axle tube and half on the diff housing. For those of you not familiar with this axle it is factory sprung under with the perch cast right where my bracket needs to be.
Should I:
1-Weld half to the tube half to the housing? I know you cant simply weld to cast but it is my understanding if you heat it and use a nickel rod it will be strong. I have heard also heat and a big MIG will do just fine.
2-Cut away some of the housing and weld fully to the tube. I have nearly two inches of housing before the (rosetta welds?) and this would give me the room I need.
