A friend of mine picked up a 79 hp44 from a bronco, We are planning on converting it to leaf springs to go under his jeep. The problem is it has the cast radius arm mounts, from what I understand these cannot be cut of because the are part of the axle tube itself. anyway around this? Anyone gotten one of the cast mout 44's to work with leafs?

i got the same problem with the HP44.... want to use one to do my SAS on leaf springs. I have thought about having some perches built that would sit over the cast wedges.

Retube it. ;)

Or just use coils and links.

Is the whole mount and tube cast? Maybe you can just cut part of it off so you can weld in the perch. Sawzaw!!

should have found one with leaves already there. when i put mine in i found a 79 f100 four door long wheel base truck. they are rare. it is a direct bolt in. mine is for sale.

There's a cast section about 8" across that includes the 'wedges' the radius arms index against. The tube from the pumpkin presses in on one side, and the tube to the knuckle presses in on the opposite side.

Not surprisingly, these housings bend pretty easily.

F250 D44HD is another potential donor. All he'd need is the housing. 5-lug knuckles and hubs would swap from the axle he already has. It would be a couple inches wider... something like 69" WMS instead of 66" or whatever the 1/2t housings were.

ford also had hp44's that were already leaf sprung . check late 70's f250 trucks for this axle.
