leaf sprung trailer axels

????
wouldnt a drop hitch be cheaper easier and safer?

Depends on trailer size.
My parents have a little trailer for hauling kayaks, trash, whatever. I flipped the mounts on that, but you could tell they were designed to go either way. No welding, etc.
But for a heavy/big trailer it would be more work.
But probably still cheaper than a stupid drop hitch.
They are pricey :)

I guess I should have posted a pic..

I already have a hitch, but I don't think that a drop hitch would help my ground clearance or work with my bumper..

what would make the SOA dangerous?

or cheaper? I already have a hitch built into my bumper. ball mounts with 7.75" drop are from $60 to $70. my time is free and that is why I thought the mod would be the most econimical

it's a small trailer 6'x8' trailer, It looks like it would be a easy mod. remove the U-bolts, flip the axel over and put the stud back into the holes on the spring from the bottom.

On a small trailer like that you shouldn't have any problems. I had a trailer where I used to work that had been converted to soa for hauling small equipment out of areas that got the lower trailers hung up.

The one I used did feel a bit top heavy, but not much worse than the spring under trailers with the same 11-12k pound loads. Not much is really stable with small cab tractors on them. I'm considering the swap on my car trailer after dragging the tail of it across every speed bump with the F-150 on it the other day.

i have been wanting to do a soa on my trailer for a while just because it rides at a angle when i pull it with my grand

those are the reasons I want to change it. plus maybe I'll be able to pull it thru an easy trail rather than draging it thru... lol

SOA

i did this to my tandem axle trailer a couple years ago, and have had good success with it. no more wearing out the back two tires faster b/c of the angle of the trailer.

the only problem i have found...is the ramps are a bit steeper, and when pulling a passenger car onto the trailer, the belly rubs a bit....but nothing awful.

hope this helps

here it is i think i might bob it when i get a bigger one and make more capable

not yet but now it is to high for my lawn mower so i will have to modify the ramp

If you have a tongue jack on the trailer, then just "jack" the tongue up some when you load...even attached to tow rig and this when minimize the approach and breakover angle on the rear of trailer....should be able to load mower easier
