I need some ideas for puzzles or mechanical type crafts for a gift. My son is 24 and sometimes has time to kill traveling for work. He sometimes buys Legos to build and I've got him very hard puzzle things that you have to figure out how to take apart but I'm coming up with nothing right now. Any recommendations?

Paging Dr. @mbalbritton You are needed stat.

Go to the Cracker Barrel eat some food and buy a cool puzzle/mind game .... two birds one stone!

Sign him up for NC4x4 and point him towards a Fuller thread 🤷‍♂️

Depends on how much you want to spend but Lego makes some seriously cool stuff for the older crowd. I'm big into the modular builds. Roughly 3500 - 4000 pieces and take time to build. They also have some new Star Wars builds that are pretty large in size if he's into that.

I like to do puzzles occasionally. Some people hate them though. I'm currently working on this 1,000 piece puzzle.

I used to get these little wooden puzzle things. They came in sheets and you had to punch out the pieces and put them together and they made some pretty neat stuff and took a while to do. I’ll have to see if I can find what they were called.

Edit: here’s an example

😁

I was going to suggest the wooden puzzles as well.

How many ch time are talking about killing? A few hours between flights, or days/weeks between projects? Is this something he can set up at home and dedicate to an area or does it need to be portable?

Now as far as LEGO goes.
There’s the new Titanic that is amazing!
There’s the world map that’s pretty cool
And a ton of vehicles that are cool as hell.

He's in motel rooms after work out of town and he doesn't go out partying. He's done some small legos that he can haul around. He also has area at home for larger projects. He doesnt do crosswords and such though.

The map is pretty cool and I could mark every where I’ve been in the world. Only problem is that with my attention span and everything on my plate it would never be completed.

Not sure if he would be into it or not, but smaller scale hobby grade RC stuff might be the ticket. There is an endless amount of tinkering and upgrading you can get into with those.

Crossword was a joke, that would bore the shit out of me.

So traveling puzzles…. That makes it more difficult. If traveling by vehicle, give him your transmission and t-case and a hand full of tools. 🤣

He could easily do that! And he's got the tools, he has a degree in Automotive tech.
